Type 1 Diabetic , thyroid medicine all my life , down to 97 pounds , with severe muscle pain
What kinds of tests have been run? How is your body chemistry doing, and your complete blood counts? How are they treating your thyroid?
Bad muscle pain can be from many causes. Too little oxygenation, nutritional deficiencies... and inadequate thyroid limits the creation of energy at the cellular level (it slows metabolism, which likewise slows all processes).
I'm sorry you're suffering. I hope you find some answers quickly.
Jen
I ast for Vitamin D , Calcium ,Magnesium. All fine he ran all kinds of blood work
Everything was normal except TSH it was 48.4
I feel ramped up not sleeping because I wake with thighs and hips hurting bad , they recently switched me from synthroid to Armour Tabs but blood work got worse
So back on Levothyroxin
That's very high, like you said. Is your doctor an endocrinologist or a general practitioner? Do you know if you have hashimotos or nodules?
Regular doctor , he is sending me to a endocrinologist , just not fast enough for me , I'm scared because the pain is so intense ,
So.. I get pretty severe muscle pain too. However I don't have type 1 diabetes, so I don't know what your restrictions are or what you tolerate well. Obviously help from a dr is preferable, but not all want to prescribe which can leave you in a no man's land while you try to get everything diagnosed and controlled, which can take a long time.
This is what i have been doing. I take prescription doses of ibuprofen.. 800 mg twice a day morning n night... but you have to go up slowly in increments until you find the lowest dose that works for you. I find for me it works better than Tylenol, nsaids like Aleve, and even Vicodin.
I use ice packs. 20 min off, 20 min on. Cloth between ice pack and skin. Topical lidocaine
Topical lidocaine can help.. such as some back relief and sunburns products have.
If that isn't enough, see a pain specialist. They can provide special shots
Good luck!
what treatment can be ordred for the thyroid issue?
I am in the same situation since two hours ago with bad muscle pain , had to get up oiut of bed. Had an avocado in cause potassium levels are low. Also drinking coconut milk as hot water bottle in use.
Hope this makes sense.
. I am going to get some fingerprick kits sent to me s that I can monitor the tsh asap and take contriol of this stupid illness without messing about with drs and tests under the NHS.
Are fingerprick TSH reliable as venous samples I wonder?
to becky
meant to say as hot water bottle is useless.
I'm not a doctor, but something is causing your lab values to stay high despite levothyroxine. There are a lot of things it could be... an endocrinologist needs to evaluate it. Maybe it's a pituitary problem, maybe a thyroid problem, ... the possibilities Need to be ruled out. Only then will you know what needs to be done. I had a thyroid ultrasound and biopsy. Not a big deal. They thought I had a nodule, but it turned out to be hashimotos. It just takes some patience and persistence. It's really important they figure it out though, because your thyroid hormone levels affect a lot of systems in your body.
All my best, Jen.
Hey! Sounds like you are really uncomfortable. Generally speaking, ice is recommended more than heat for generalized muscle pain. I get that heat is more comfortable. But ice has a better impact on pain. Good luck!
