Exercise after HoLEP Surgery

My understanding there is a higher chance of incontinence with Holep vs GL or BT.

Supposedly there is less chance of needing another procedure with Holep.

Phil  Is you doctor forcing you to have one of them procedure.  You do know you don't have to have any procedure just have the stones removed.  And after if you need anything have the UROLIFT to open you up.  That is all the other procedure are going to do make a tunnel.  UROLIFT does it with out cutting and no side effects.  Remember you are the one that will have to deal with them Not the doctor he just moves on to the next patient  Ken

No urologist is putting any pressure to undergo any procedure.

I had an 18mm bladder stone 2.5 years ago and now have 6 small ones as per mri.

One urologist (after a cystoscopy) said I’m not a candidate for a Urolift due to a 70 gram prostate and median lobe.

Phil   I don't know what your doctor is telling you but there is a chance with incontinence and other things with any procedure that cut away at the prostate.  Remember the prostate is a plug that holds the urine in.  Once that's gone you have to train your bladder.  There have been men on here in the last few month that have had GL and he drip all the time.  He can't go anywhere with out a diaper. And he can't get a erection good enough for sex.  It does work sometimes but do you want to take that chance.  My doctor does Urolift with a median lobe all he does is clip it to one side.  You just have to find a doctor that will do it.  This would be the easiest for you.  Have them do the UROLIFT clip both size you may need 6 clips once that is done they can get the stones out and you would be good to go in 2 to 4 weeks.  If you have to pick one of the others Button Turp is better because the doctor has better control of the button and what he is getting ride of.  I don't know if you are concerned with any of the side effects but voice you concerns to your doctor and see what he will say.  It is your life and body.  Before I had my procedure in 2015.  In 2014 I had kidney stones 6 infections and sepsis.  Also for out I had a stricture.  I am 62 and I am not giving up anything just because I am not having anymore kids and I will not let any doctor tell me I don't need it.  You pick what you want.  God Bless  Ken

They do UROLIFT to 80 gram and the median lobe is just part of the prostate  They are also in trail doing up to 100 grams  It can be put to one side and make the tunnel.  If you want them to make the tunnel by cutting it out.  That is up to you.  Ken

Firstly, thank you for the all the information.

I’m hoping to see another urologist this week and explore the Urolift in greater depths.

So the Button Turp is less invasive with less chance of RE than Holep?

Thank you.

Phil  did you go for a second opinion.  I do that with all my doctor.  I had A-Fib  Saw one doctor for 6 month's all he wanted to do is put a monitor in my chest which I let him and every other month he put another monitor on.  I was in the hospital 9 times with a-fib attacks.  After the last time I was in the hospital in October of 2016.  I had enough.  I went and saw a different doctor.  He looked over my charts and the reading of the monitor in my chest.  He know I had a problem.  November 28th of 2016 I had a 9 hour heart ablation.  He burned the hole life side of my heart.  It has been over a year and I have not had another attack.  Do what you must but look into other options  Don't give up on you.  Ken

Good to hear you’re doing well.

I’ve seem 4 urologists.

Original dr does BT.

2nd Dr wanted to remove the stones and then discuss a minimum invasive procedure. I felt he was more of businessman than a dr

3rd Dr does everything but pushed for Holep.

4th Dr at a large medical center suggested Holep but made it clear he would be happy to refer me to another specialist. He’s the one I have a Holep scheduled for June 6.

I’ve read there are a lot of pae failures.  And not impressed with Rezum and Fla.

I’m stressing over any procedure except Urolift. What happens 7 years down the road when the prostate continues to grow? Seems another procedure will be necessary.

Phil.   It's not that it less invasive ( Button Turp )  It would depend on how good your doctor is and if he cares about your concerns.  I just found a guy that was on this post a few years ago.  He had a Button Turp.  His prostate was 100 grams and was pushing into the bladder..  The surgery took 1 1/12 hours.  The doctor remove 50 % of the one side opposite tho the seminal canal.  His doctor told him that he should not have any problem with erection or retro.  He told him that he should be healed enough in 6 to 8 weeks.  Some men do take longer.  No sex for 30 day's.  He has no problem with going to the bathroom and he did wait 6 week for his first time out.  No problem with erections and no retro.  It was a little pink but it does clear in time.  His doctor cared enough to do the best for him.  You have to voice your concerns Ken  Good Luck

Not  every man prostate grows fast.  If in a few years I have to have a few more clips so be it  It is much easier then going through having it cut out.  There have been men on here that have had 3 procedure in 10 years 2 Helop and 1 GL.  One man had 2 turp in 2 years. There are men that have had the Rezum and it did so much damage that they had to have TURPs to fix it.  But it does works sometimes.   I know I am not you but I would have the stones removed and then try a UROLIFT.  You should be good in 2 to 3 weeks. I would cancel the Holep and do more research before it's to late.  You have to be sure.  It's your life.  Ken

My prostate was 75 grams but my PSA has gone way down since the surgery. I'm not sure it would have done that without the surgery. I understand that taking part of the prostate out does help PSA. Rezum seemed like a great way to go with 80% chance of  no Retro but take warning it is extremely painful unless you are put to sleep. .Otherwise you get  about 8 to 10 needles up your butt sticking meds (which don't necessarily work very well ) into your prostate to deaden for the painful injection of steam to dissolve some  of the interior  of the prostate. I read and studied every procedure and it came down to Rezum and HoLEP. Kenneth is making me think that maybe I should have considered UROLIFT more but at this point I think I would still choose between HoLEP and Rezum. However if I were to go with HoLEP  or any other  procedure I would not exercise till 6 weeks after surgery  and I would do the exercises previously mentioned. Research every method and find the stats for each method on retro, incontinence and etc.. They all have their pluses and minuses. Keep in mind you have to be careful because most every doctor will push what they do  because that is their bread and butter. I have read about many happy people with HoLEP and Rezume. The reports I read tell me that HoLEP has a quick healing time but if you exercise to soon as I did that will probably not be the case. I would also suggest waiting longer than two weeks to make out with your wife after surgery. On a better note I seem to be getting a little better every day and I am definitely better that I was the day of my first post on this. Only about 2% have incontinence  with HoLEP after a year with most being free of it within 4 or 5 weeks. That stat is consistent with what my urologist told me.
