Experiences will vary greatly and I normally get canned for my experiences. I went out on road bike from day 12 . I was really cautious in case I fell off but persevered . I do not think there are any reasons why you cant get on excercise bike . the only thing that will effect you is just personal choice and some tenderness with the saddle .

hi Pete

i am (normally) a 200 mile a week cyclist. tomorrow will be three weeks since my rthr and i was on exercise bike from day 5. i had to really plan how i would mount the bike, saddle height and resistance are other issues. my advice is start on bad leg side of bike. get saddle to appropriate height. i’d suggest an inch below your hip bone at the lowest. if you’re used to a higher saddle, go to that height. its vital not to bend knee too much and a lot of people who arent regular cyclists might be used to lower saddles. step over the bike with god leg and place both feet on the ground. put good foot into pedal strap and then bad foot, taking majority of weight on good foot. stand in pedals to get a comfortable perch on saddle (ive experienced no pain on saddle as opposed to some major discomfort on office and car chairs). start at really low resistance and just spin loosely but not too fast. get to your own comfortable level of spinning/resistance trade off - ive found the range of 70-90 rpm works for me andafter two weeks ofthis, im at a resistance of 8 when id usually be on 14. unlike Keith ive not braved a road bike yet due to nervousness about mounting but have been short distance on brompton where mounting is identical to exercise bike
