At the physio's suggestion I just did 2 minutes on my home exercise bike with no resistance, pedalling really slowly and it was lovely! Not for the knee so much because my quads were very tight but for my hip and bum - being able to get my hip moving freely after days of sleeping on my back was terrific.
Alison - 3.5 weeks post partial KR
Nine weeks and love going on home bike good for the soul as well as the body!
I built up and do five minutes three times a day with resistance . It's a small step compared to before but really been a psychological godsend . Keep pedalling!
Hi
The bikes a great thing ..I purchased a set of foot pedals and they worked wonders
Just coming up to 7 weeks post op been walking unaided for almost 3weeks
People think the most important thing is the bend My physio told me strengthening the muscle around the knee is just as important as they also support the weight of the body and takes pressure of the knee
I agree - my physio said the same and gave me exercises only for those knee muscles now - as I have focused too much on the bend. Also they will help with the tight band. I am on a walking stick at 9 weeks sounds like you are doing very well. Will ditch it when not leaning or limping as advised.
Yes, so far my physio has been unconcerned re bend. I have well over 90 but you only really get swelling above the knee with the op I've had which makes it much easier. She has been focussed on straightening and walking properly using the knee and not swinging the hip around. I think that as with so many things, if you can attach a number to something, it is easy to measure and set targets for. But it may not be the most crucial thing in terms of long-term mobility.
Hi sparkly I got exercise bikes when had first TKR 16 weeks ago it does really help slowly does it minute by minute. I did 15 minutes each other night on my bike or walked on my tread mill till I had my righ leg done eight days ago...good luck
