Hi,
I suffer from a general anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder and quit a job 2 weeks ago because of it. After 4 months of 4-5 hours of sleep, constant anxiety, long hours and abusing caffeine, I began experiencing all kinds of ailments like heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, chest pain and tight muscles. I only experienced fatigue over the weekends as I went through some sort of crash.
I thought I would feel better after I left the job. I have experienced this before and felt normal a few days after I quit that job but now I’m still exhausted and have not seen many signs of recovery yet. I don’t feel nervous, my diet is clean, I take walks, sleep is great, mental state is also stable aside from the frustration of not being able to anything because of the extreme fatigue. I also notice that I feel better in the evening.
Do I wait it out or should I see a doctor? Has anyone here had the same issues?
after you going through four months of terrible stress, it’s going to take a while for your body to feel better. Stress is very hard on the body. i’m not surprised you are feeling exhausted. It’s good you’re going on walks and eating healthy. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water because hydration is very important and can help reverse the exhausted feeling.
even Though you may not feel anxious at this time, all of your symptoms such as heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, just pain and tight muscles are related to the stress that you went through and possibly some underlying anxiety. The symptoms can last a lot longer than the actual stress you encountered for those four months.
Same thing happened to me when I was in my 20s. Prior to that I had internalized years and years of anxiety and stress. In my late 20s I had a sudden onset of symptoms that scared me.floaters in my eyes, numbness and tingling in my arms and legs, exhaustion, ringing in my ears, heart palpitations, and several more.
Basically what happens is that the body can only take so much stress and then it has a breakdown including symptoms. It’s just like the straw that broke the camels back!
so make sure you take great care of yourself. We only have this one body and mind for our lifetime. Try to relax your mind as much as you can on a daily basis. it’s good to learn how to manage anxiety so that it doesn’t advance too far with the symptoms. You can always speak with a counselor who could help with that.
I would say see how much you can get yourself to a relaxed state and see if the symptoms diminish. They won’t hurt you when they are due to anxiety. If they go on and on and on you can talk to your doctor about it but my guess is that the doctor would not find anything wrong with you . most likely it’s related to the stress you had. Our bodies tell us when it’s too much! This is good for you to know for the future. Don’t let your stress get to the point of making you sick. It’s simply not worth it. Take care
