Newly diagnosed with Emphysema/copd, I have been given no information from my GP, what should I expect.
You have found a good source of information but there is much more out there. I would ask your GP for a referral to a specialist in respiratory disease for a full appraisal. Next try a get into a rehab program it will be here you get an exercise regime and also information on medications, diet and the do’s and don’ts. COPD is not a death sentence and with exercise, medication and care you can lead a full life. Best wishes
As Martin said above .. copd isn't a death sentence. Be positive, learn how to breath properly, and walk, walk, walk! I was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and following the advice Martin has given above, my latest test readings have actually improved.
Good luck!

Hi Martin 63346 Thank you for your kind words, visited a different GP today and had much better information given to me, I now have a referral to the respiratory team who I am sure will be able to advise. I now understand that it is a manageable condition with the correct diet, exercise and probably a positive attitude which as a normally positive person I lost for a few days. Back on track now. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, really appreciated, good wishes to you x
Hi Josephine 30311, As I said to Martin I am in a much better place now I have more information, will look into the breathing part, and I will be walking much more. thank you for the kindness you have shown, best wishes x
Ask for referral to Pulmonary Rehabilitation course. And, if you haven't already done so, check out the British Lung Foundation Website for information on all lung related diseases, help and support, local breath easy groups etc etc.
Best wishes V
Hi Vee2, thank you for the advice, I do have a referral to the PR team, not sure how long the wait is though it's been a few weeks now. I am under the Occupational Health team at work as well, so quite lucky really. Had a look on the BLF site but will have another look now my mind isn't in such a whirl. I am trying to walk more, the dog thinks it's her birthday everyday. I will look for some local support groups as well. Thank you very much best wishes x
