Extreme fatigue after eating for a long time

Is there a particular reason I would experience extreme fatigue after eating?  It only really happens if I don't eat anything for a while and straight after a meal, I feel so exhausted to the point I cannot even keep my eyes open - it almost feels like I have taken sleeping pills. Other symptoms I have noticed are nausea, fever, anxiety and muscle weakness. I have experienced this on a few occasions and recently noticed the trigger to be not eating for a long time and then having this occur only after eating. The symptoms usually last the whole day until I sleep through the night. I then wake up fine the next day. It is truly bizarre as I have had the glucose and insulin tests and all were fine.   My doctor attributed it to stress but I am certain it has to be something else. I have tried to control it by eating regular small meals but of course a busy schedule at work sometimes means that is not always possible. I am just curios to know exactly what could be going on with my body so I can fix it.

It may be caused by what you are eating, particularly if you have a lot of carbs.

Hi Geraldine,

If I eat anything that is loaded with carbs or anything with a high sugar content too late in the day I too feel groggy. But if I eat something loaded with nutrients, such as salads, veggies, chicken etc. I have alot more energy afterwards. You could also try and do something active after you eat to help break it down vs. sitting in your system. also maybe you aren't getting enough water. I also cut back on my sodium. I hope this is of some help. Good luck.

I get this & proved pulse drops on TILT TEST .Could be syncope or AF - heart .

Anaethetists won't take the risk as also sleep apnea borderline, diabetes borderline  &  pacemaker  borderline .

However NHS brands as Low Priority & there is no Research or treatment till you become acute .This doesn't make intelligent sense especially when I  died 3x of cardiac arrest related to oxygen pumpinng 10 yrs ago .
