The weirdest thing happened to me today. Recently my anxiety had been fairly bad. However this weekend I had a weekend with near to no anxiety and all was good.
I was on my coach back today from Wales (i live in London) and i've done the journey loads of times. Was having no anxious thoughts and all was good. All of a sudden out of nowhere my heart went from normal to near around 200bpm i'd say. Ridiculously fast and really hard. It lasted for about 1 minute before it returned to normal instantly. There was no reason for this, no anxious thoughts or anything happening. I had mild chest pains before this for a couple of hours, but not near my heart, more below my colar bone left side.
It was very different as usually i can control panic attacks with breathing techniques but this time i couldnt even control my breathing.
Scary to say the least.
My left arm has been aching round the shoulder and down the arm and i get the ache alot, never on my right arm.
Ive had an ECG say 6 months ago and chest xray and all was normal.
Ive heard about SVT's etc and wondering if thats what could have happened or if it is anxiety related.
It was so strange. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Have you been tired lately?
I suffer the same thing. Started to happen everyplace for no reason. I developed agoraphobia because of it, the effects can last for days. They never found anything wrong with me. Get checked out to rule out health problems. I was getting three of these a day and became afraid to get out of bed. Yes, panic attacks can be like that but try not to be afraid of them. Years later I am still alive working on overcoming my agoraphobia and trying to get back into exercising. Survived this many times but its hard to tell myself when I exercise that I will be fine because the panic attacks feel the same, out of breath with a rapid heart rate.. Even caught these on my heart rate monitor and showed them to the doctor. They call this "palpitations" lol. Good luck.
P.S. that is what a big rush of adrenaline does. Fight or flight. Changes blood flow for maximum reaction. Demands more oxygen that's why you feel out of breath.
Yeah, i have been deeling tired, despite having a fair amount of sleep. Although last night i didnt sleep i think it was due to thinking about what had happened during the day.
I just didnt think palpitations could be so severe haha. Ive had them before, and i was used to them working their way up to a rapid heatbeat, not just instantly going really rapid and then instantly returning to normal within the space of say 2 minutes.
I mean i'm only 22, so I tell myself heart problems are very unlikely and as i've had and ECG in the past I tell myself they have ruled out any underlying heart problems. I don't know if so much can change within about 6 months since i had the ECG. So i dont know if its worth asking for another etc.
It was just a palpitation that im very not used to, too hard, instant and ridiculously fast. Such scary stuff but it helps to know someone else has had the same stuff and is still around today hahah. Ofcourse, rather neither of us had it but well what can you do
If you're deep in the thick of a generally anxious period, it sometimes manifests strangely things like limited symptom panic attacks. It's not here to stay
HI are you on any medicine at all antidepressants,
Nope, nothing medically related or anxiety related. Was offered sertaline about 7 months ago but refused it. Learnt to handle my anxiety by myself but i have the odd few weeks where it comes back
Yeah, sudden onset because of the release of adrenalin. Can be like throwing a switch. Adrenalin gets burned up quickly so if you try to stay somewhat cool-headed when it feels like you are dying it passes quickly. The problem is when your body keeps releasing adrenalin and it lasts longer than a few minutes. Normally after such a rush, I get tired and drained. It's why they recommend exercise. Adrenalin is released and burned during exercising so you have less of it around to give you an attack.
Ah i see the excersising stuff makes sense now. I always thought it was to make you feel positive about your body and give you something to work towards, which i guess is a reason to excersize soo. But the adrenaline stuff does make sense.
I'll try what you have said. I always feel drained after one too, like really drained and tired.
Thanks for your adivce 👍 its really helpful
