Please can someone give me some advice? My son has had 2 tests one in Dec and one in March both results are up at 1800!! He had this test in 2013 which was negative and has suffered stomach problems undiagnosed for years. He had an endoscopy last July which was clear and now is going in for both scopes and a MRI. He is only 11 and I am worried sick.
Hi Angie so sorry to hear that about your son I myself have never had
that test but I know if it high then he could have IBD as that would show
a high result were if it was IBS then it dose not show a high it doesn't
show anything is he in a lot of pain with it .I was told I had ulcerative
colitis then it was IBD now it I been told its crohns I really hope he
doesn't have it cos it no fun for an adult never mind a 11 ur old boy I also know that the pain can be really really sore I don't even go out the house
when I got a flair up as I can be in the loo at least 20 times a day and
also vomiting but it can go into remission and be normal for years so
good luck let me know how it gos Susan xx
Angie,
I too am really sorry to hear of what your son is going through.Unfortunately I don't know the answer but as a Mother who has had a child go through this I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you both and wish your son all the best on his test results.
Hi, I've been told I have ibs for years despite always being ill, loose bowel movements, vomiting etc. Then I had a fecal calprotectin test and it's was 350 ish and my gastroenterology specialist said it's more likely to be crohns. I've had a colonoscopy and small bowel barium recently, both came back normal so I'm still at a loss to understand what is happening I would say 1800 is extremely high. I know others on here have much greater experience than myself so hopefully someone can help u. I would say if ur son is really poorly right now, at that level especially, then u need to be pushing for answers urgently. Good luck to you boy and u x
Thanks Susan
Hi Jo I sound like your crohns has went into remission and
that's why your test came back normal
hi
just registered to answer your Q, though it's been long since you posted it may help other sufferers
CALPROTECTIN could be caused by intestinal worms and parasites which are not seen in normal stool test
it could be a sign of another dreaded disease as well
