Eye floaters and health anxiety

Hey guys, is it normal to have eye floaters? I'm really scared as i google them and they kept saying some worst scenario like retinal detachment and other stuff and its making me scared a lot. I do play games a lot and i work on programming. I went to an optician and change my glasses and they just mentioned to me that my Astigmatism went up abit that is all and there is nothing else.

I'm the same and have pretty bad astigmatism in both eyes and have floaters so did my mum. I'm under the specialist at the eye hospital for a totally unrelated reason and I've told him and he wasn't concerned. If you are worried I would say probably no need as your opticians found nothing untoward so chances are it's not a problem. See how it goes and if it gets worse then go back to your opticians and tell them your worried. I'm presuming that like me they are black

Hi, what is your astigmatism? I'm only at 300. Opticians just said my astig increases. Nothing else.

Hi I too have eye floaters have had them for years. Opticians say they are nothing to worry about and are very common x

I think you mean 3.00 that's about the same as mine but I'm extremely lucky I only have to wear glasses for reading

Yea 3.00 my bad. Can i ask, can gaming cause retinal detachment?

No it can't but it can cause terrific headaches It's not good to spend too long on any thing that strains the eyes

I read about retinal detachment and i'm scared to play games. Its giving me anxiety

First of, worse case scenario a detached retina is treatable. Secondly this is mostly caused by an eye trauma, it can obviously have other causes but gaming has not been one I have heard of. When you think their are millions playing computer games every day, if it was a possibility I'm sure it would be on the news big time warning us not to do this incase people sued the games companies. 3D games do give me ocular migraines but it's short lived so I don't do it. So if you had got a detached retina it would definitely have been picked up by the opticians

Yes it is normal especially as you age. Your optician would have seen any problems with your eyes so you haven't got a detached retina. You would know if you had it because you sight would deteriorate and you would notice a shadow over your eye and your eyesight coming and going again.

Could you be suffering from health anxiety? x

Yes. Indeed. Health anxiety. Triggering me now
