scintillating scotomas lasting about 15 mins without migraine. These started a couple of years ago age 60 after i had to take warfarin daily post p.e. Also take anti dep and diazepam. Never had one before, anyone else have it. Saw ophthalmologist who said it can be common but doesnt know cause.
I get them, usually only lasts a matter of minutes,im pretty sure its migrain related as i have had several lately..no headache. Ive had tremendous stress for months, think that might be playing a roll in it. It does freak me ou.
Thanks Lee, it does freak me out too. I thoughtnthere might be more posts about this as I believe it can be common. Do you get nausea at all with it?
No no nausea, just feel a little off,but that probably from the panic that sets in.
Hi, I started getting the scintillating scotomas 3 years ago. Initially they were without migraine but in this last year I do get a throbbing head pain, not full migraine as such. They have become more frequent, 36 last year (I keep a record). Whichever side the scotoma appears on, the pain develops on the opposite side. The scotoma lasts on average 25 mins, but the pain starts 4 hours later. I just ignore it as now part of my life. I am 68. I have read about them and it is just a brain related issue that some people get. Some people I know get migraines but no scotoma, so just one of life's mysteries.
