Fall after tkr 16 months ago

I had a fall and landed right in my tkr extreme pain and swelling GP said internal bleeding and tissue damage but I worried may have damaged new knee

Anybody else had this please

Still tight and burning after 24 hours of rest and icing

I am soooooo sorry, Lorraine. I worry about falling and spend too much time looking down. I feel for you having probably thought that you were out of the woods at 16 months. Keep us posted how you're doing and I really hope that this will heal quickly and you will be back to normal very soon.

Hi Lorraine - hope that you are feeling better. You mentioned that your GP said bleeding and tissue damage. Did they take an X-ray? If not -- you need to go and have an x-ray done on that knee. My mother had a TKR in 2002, she fell in 2009 and when she fell -- it was not a hard fall. She fell on thick carpet. However, took her for an x-ray and she had fractured her femoral and tibia bone plus her knee had to be replaced. I am not saying that you could have fractures but is always best to have it check by a professional with an X-Ray. I had a TKR last October and that is one of my fear is falling. Continue to ice and follow the doctor's instructions. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Take care J-21370

I had a fall at 10 months when I went downstairs, missed the bottom step and crash landed.  I did not actually land on the tkr knee but overbent it and it became very stiff and swollen.  However, the actual knee still felt firm when I got up and put weight on it, so I did not seek medical attention as I was abroad on holiday at the time.  It took a few weeks to recover and I went back to using a walking stick until I got my confidence back.   If your GP has checked it and did not feel it necessary to send you for an X-ray, he must believe it is just soft tissue damage.

The prosthesis can take a lot. I fell the day after my revision causing a 20 degree torque break to the femur rewiring another survey the following day. The prosthesis held up beautifully.

Hi ! I fell on new knee 4 weeks PO. I was sooooo nervous and I was out of town , out at a dinner . Crazy all the way around as I look back . But ... the knee did great ! I agree with OFG that I believe the new knee is stronger than the old knee . I did ice it as soon as I could . Good you had it checked just take it easy for awhile till it calms down .

I fell on my TKR knee after only a couple of months. I thought I might have done some damage, so made an appointment with the surgeon who did the TKR. He had X-rays taken in the office and everything was AOK. I was told to ice it and elevate if there was any swelling (which I was still doing anyway). He said these replacement parts can take a lot.  PT took pity on me and went easy on me for a week or two. No problems since and it's been a little over 2 years.

Hey Lorraine

same thing.  Ortho decided best course of action was to discharge me bc I think he just didn't want to be bothered.  He already got the big fee.  New Ortho won't touch knee.

My knee was stiff and swollen for 3 months.  I haven't done anything except to take anti-inflammatory meds and Percocet which I've taken for back pain.  I just kept on living as usual.  Knee healing now, much less stiffness, and even no pain when I wake up.  But it will get stiff in a heartbeat if I abuse it or don't.  It's all a matter of what you're willing to accept in my humble opinion.
