Hi Everyone
I am new here - I am ten weeks post cemented hip replacement , I have been so pleased as everything has gone well. But I fell backwards four days ago down our stairs , of course I landed on my operated side - now I have some aches and tightness in calf and thigh although I can still walk (with some stiffness now) and weight bear on operated leg.
Has anyone else had a fall - I'm hoping once all the aches from the fall have gone I will be back to how I was before. Worried now !!!
Thanks
Aniand
Hello Aniland,
I'm between 10 and 11 weeks in on mine also. I haven't fallen yet but have twisted it and bumped into things and almost fallen. All of these things seem to cause some stiffness and swelling. I'd recommend ice and elevation. If it doesn't show improvement in the next few days, maybe consider having your doc take a look at it.
Hoping you feel better soon,
Kelvin
Thanks Kelvin
Yes that's what I will do , hoping it improves over the next couple of days tho. Serves me right for thinking it was all going so well.
Hope your op has been a success.
Thanks and Best Wishes
Aniand
Dear Aniand
Oh golly what a shame. I would be inclined to get yourself checked out even if you think it is just bruising which more than likely it is.
Best of luck Richard
Thank you Richard - yes I think I will for reassurance .
Ouch! So sorry to hear that Aniand! I've often thought about what would happen if I fell or even just landed funny on my operated hip. The outcomes in my mind were not good. For sure if after a couple days you are still in any kind of pain (staying the same or getting worse), please go get it checked out. Better safe than sorry!
Best of luck
Hi Aniand if I was you I think I would get it checked out just to be on the safe side, hope its all good.
Big Hugs

Hi Aniand,
Warm welcome to the hippies forum !!!
I would say to go to Urgent Care or A&E as soon as possible to have it checked out ... don't wait -
probably it is just a bruise, but better safe than sorry later on ...
let us know how you are getting on, okay ''
big warm hug

Hello
Thank you for replying. I think I have turned a corner today it seems to be better than yesterday. I spoke with my physio at the hospital and she seems to think it is bruising from the fall.
But like you have said if it gets worse or doesn't improve I will be off to get it checked.
Best Wishes to you.
Thanks Jacq
I feel it is definately better than yesterday - I think the bruising is coming out now. I can't believe it happened as I have been so careful.
Hug To You xx
Thanks for welcome - I have been reading through these forums right from the start of my hip op.
You all kept me going especially at night when I couldn't sleep with the restless legs and not being able to sleep on my back. So this is my first post ! I decided to write because of my fall and needed reassurance .
I am hoping my hip is going to be OK as my right side feels a lot better today. But will definately see how it is tomorrow.
Hugs To You xxx
Hope your feeling ok just now with stiffness.
Im 3 weeks post op, and i had a specialist surgeon who ended off sick so was replaced with a second specialist both of which the nurses ran off from in fear in the ward. Im still under the care of the first surgeon so i have strict list from both of them. Any falls at all to go straight back into the A&E of the hospital it was done at and make sure it is xrayed and that the team get the surgeon or at least a surgical team to look at it.
He explained to me not to go to my GP or local hospital as they may not have a specalist team who are used to dealing with it quickly or recognizing symptoms. One of the issues is that because our bodies were all "mangled" pre op they may not recognise some of the finer details and send you on your way.
agree with everyone that your better being safe than sorry and getting it checked out. Id also recommend trying to go tot he hospital you got it operated on to get the best chance of an experienced team.
