On Easter, 2017, I fell and broke my ankle. I had a Severe Spiral Tibia and Fibula Surgery April 24. I had my hard cast put on May 8th. I fell on my non weight bearing Ankle yesterday, Mother's Day. I'm worried I did damage. I'm bruised in other places. Should i make an appointment to see my surgeon? ?
I have 2 plates and 13 screws.
If you are experiencing any unusual pain, especially sharp pain then certainly you should.
In my opinion you should call your surgeon's office and give them an update on your progress including your fall. Ask them what you should do-see them again or something else until your normal post surgery follow-up. BTW what caused these 2 falls?? My husband started falling ever so often and always had an excuse. You know the grass was wet and slippery-I caught my heel going down the step-I twisted my ankle and lost my balance. He ended up falling and breaking his hip. The end of the story was he was diagnosed with NPH and had to have a shunt put into his skull to drain excess fluid from his brain into his belly. That excess fluid caused his falls because the fluid pushed the nerves in his brain out of position so they didn't "talk" to his feet correctly. We now think that a number of "older" people have undiagnosed NPH because it kind of acts like some signs of aging. If you're young don't worry. He would have been undiagnosed if his physical therapist didn't suspect something else was going on such as mini strokes during surgery. He wasn't progressing as he should. Best of luck with your healing.
How are things going today? I'm sure that was a frightening experience.
You're in good company here.
Sending you healing thoughts.
Karen.
