I am having my knee op on 26th finally but was wondering I have gel nails do I have to have them removed before the op
You can have no polish on your nails, unfortunately. :-(.
Great quwstion! False nails tend to hide a lot of bacteria even if you are a good handwasher. But, id ask your doc. You're the first I've heard to ask the question!

Yes, I have gel nails on permanently and I had to take them off every surgery I've had as bacteria can get into them and lead to infection.
Sorry they have to come off. The surgeon and anesthetist can tell a lot about the oxygen in your body from your nails.
I was allowed to keep mine on. They just needed to be able to see my toes so that regular polish had to come off. T
