Fatigue & Sertraline

Hi .I have been following this forum for a few weeks but this is my first time messaging. It was inspiring & comforting to read the information posted . I too started on Sert 25mg 34days ago for what I assume was mild depression with anxiety or vice versa???,& usually I cope very well with much worse .

I think Life’s circumstances piled up & burn out have resulted in my “weakness”. I went suddenly from being a productive individual to a complete recluse . IT WAS HORRIBLE.

Now on 50mg for 26days. What a journey!!!! Longest 36days of my life.

Half of which were spent in bed  for almost 20hours a day.

Daily I struggle with my decision to remain on it. The first 3 weeks were the hardest. The fatigue was crippling. I do feel a bit better now ,appetite a bit better, a lot calmer & not emotionally Labile ,but still fatigued & foggy,& ESP content to not leave the house. This is not ideal as I can’t hide forever. As long as I don’t have to make decisions I am content. Will this ever pass.I still deliberate everyday on whether I need to increase. I’m waiting for a full 6 weeks on 50mg before I decide . Furthermore I switched to a Pfizer brand today called Zoloft. I’m hoping this will perform a miracle .

Hi Annie.   I’m sorry you are suffering.  It’s awful.   I am 6 weeks on 50 and I am like you, happiest hiding in my house, I don’t want to go anywhere, I was like this a few years ago and I know that once the meds really settle and start to work gradually things get easier and going out isn’t so daunting, this time for me the meds are taking forever to settle but hopefully they will for you and I both.  X

Hi annie, i can tell you that it will get better. It will slowly improve but it will get there. Some people need increase but others not so much. This med is slow acting so don't expect it to kick in for awhile. As to being a miracle maybe, but i call it (lifes little helper). Dont get anxious because it is taking so long, hang in there. If u need an increase, so be it. But always keep ur doctor informed if u feel not right

Thank you so much Laura & Brenda. I think I have read & re read every thread on this forum & it’s this forum that has kept me going. I will persevere & keep you posted . Good luck to both of you as well.

Hi Annie

I started on 150mg Sertraline in August last year. I too had a lot of side effects. I felt myself shaking a lot. In January I tried to come off Sertraline but I started to get bad withdrawal symptoms. I spent 9 weeks off the med but decided to go back on it. I am now taking 50mg. I still have a foggy head and some tummy issues. The main reason I went back was because my sleep became badly affected.

I am going to see how the 50mg goes for 6 weeks. In your position I would give it 8 weeks before you take a decision.

This forum is an absolute godsend for me when I need a chat or to bounce things off people who actually know so don’t be scared to reach out if you need support we are all going through it and there is always someone who will answer you.   It will all be ok, it will work out eventually for us all.   Hugs x

Yes Annie this forum is a godsend. I use to get on other web sites and it would blow my mind and increase my anxiety. The people here will answer ur questions no matter what the question is.

I can't believe a doctor started you on 150mg. Wow. That is so high. No wonder you felt bad. If you can't sleep ask the doc for some phenerghan..it's an anti.histamine and it won't make you drowsy in the morning. If you take one early evening it should help you to sleep. Cut down on coffee.. drink loads of water. Dont increase by any more than 25mg at a time and change your doctor lol

Good luck
