h i friends I am in a real mess .had my hip replaced in 2011 right hip . i still can not put my shoes or socks on , bend past 90 deg , can not get in and out of bath, and have pins and needles and numbness from my hip to my knee . My GP has written to my surgeon twice so far with out any reply i am so fed up my weight is gaining due to the fact i can only manage to walk 1.6 miles at a time i then have to stop as i am in pain . have tryed swimming etc .i am now back on pain meds lyrica , aroxia co-codamol etc any advise i would love to hear from you
Oh how frustrating for you. Your GP needs to be a bit more forceful on the case, how about a second opinion? Also perhaps a referral to physio might help, to walk 1.6 miles is quite an achievement, so perhaps a able to help with the socks etc. have you been told to keep to the 90 degree rule, if not the physio will surely be able to help. You sound determined and fed up quite rightly so and deserve help quickly
Sounds like you definitely need a referral.
Hi bridget.
I am sorry you are having all these problems after all this time. If you know the name of your consultant. If I were you I would phone the hospital yourself and find out if that consultant still works there. If he does then ask to speak to his secretary direct and say what is wrong. If not ask to speak to a secretary in orthopedics and you will probably be put under a different consultant. Either way you do need to be seen to make sure all is ok. I hope you get help.
thank you for your prompt reply i will wait till the end of this week and go back to my gp to see if my surgeon has replied . health care in Ireland stinks
i ws told that the 90 deg rule would always apply .such a pain when i drop anything and ask someone else to pick it up for me .I dont mean to moan and grone but i wish my operation had gone as well as some lucky people on here
I should check that, most have been told to ease it up after 6-8 weeks or had it removed altogether. There may of course been a specific need for you to always keep it, so I should get to see a consultant with a list of all your concerns and questions and make them go through it one by one
Oh you are in Ireland. Cool North or south ? I know it is bad over there I have good frienbds in Ireland up the north end and 2 of them are nurses so I know it is bad.
Hi Bridget,
I'm so sorry to hear about your problems, so here's my advice,
1, get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion,
2, get an xray of your hip to make sure everything is as it should be,
3, get a new GP! your's sounds useless,
4, call the hospital where the opp. was done, and tell them everything you have been thru,
5, if you don't get any satisfaction from any of these people, write to the hospitals chief executive , and file a complaint,
6, there is no way you should have to keep to the 90 degree rule after all this time, so again seek more opinions,
lastly if it turns out that the hip was not done correctly I would sue the ass of all concerned,
wishing you all the luck in the world, we are always here for you,
Love, Lynne x.
