Have had both hips replaced april 2014 and then 18 feb 2015
At 4 weeks post op i got infection which took around 4/5 weeks to get rid of it had 4 lots of antibotics including penicillian v, had a brief period of feeling ok then starting to feel unwell again phyically but couldnt put my finger on what could be wrong. went away last week at the end of the holiday woke with a heavy cold which is now in my chest.
Ever since the operation on 18 feb ive just felt dreadful. Left Hip isnt as good as the right hip was at this stage still walking with crutches and have developed a limp.No pain so thats a positive ....
When in bed if i lay on operated side its stll very painful.
Feel very isolated and getting more and more depressed. Hardly any friends both with me now had operation so should be ok now......
See the surgeon on weds 13 may as my 6 weeks check he could discharge me due to infection.
everyone is different so please try not to despair.
I had my left knee and right hip replaced 6 weeks ago and have ridden the roller coaster just like you. That you can put your hand up and say I need some help is a good sign and you'll find people on here very supportive. I'd never believed that people I didn't know could be so kind before I went n this site.
You'll get there because we'll all be there for you.
I have no wise words to offer you but just had to reply so you know you're not alone. I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time and hope that you'll soon be back on track. You say that not many friends bother with you now - have you told them you're still struggling?
Just remember......no 2 people are the same and no 2 joints are the same. I've had both hips done and recovery was different for both
The operated side is bound to be still sore....not that long since youhad it done really
Start making a list for the consultant. All the things that are wrong {no matter how small} All the questions you want to ask him {I would forget something if I didnt take my list in }
Tell him how you feel emotionally as well.
Let us know how the 6 week check up goes and what he said
So sorry Denise. Is there any chance you could fly off to the sun? I flew to Tenerife in February, pre op, just about crawling around and had assistance all the way. Once at the airport, I was wheeled through every stage and felt like a queen. They were marvellous. I press ganged a friend to come with me, we stayed in an apartment and did an awful lot of nothing. The sun and change of scenery was a lifesaver. I think we need goals to look forward to. Forget about saving for a rainy day, it's raining now for you honey bunch. You can fly at 6 weeks post op.
Hi Denise!,poor you! Very frustrating for you! But its a roller coaster! I am just over 8 weeks! And very stiff and still feel bruised! Consultant said swelling will take time to settle down! Next week off to have hydrotherapy! So hopefully I will be better for warm water to help muscles relax! Regards Amanda
Oh dee I am so sorry to hear this but try to keep your chin up, when you are not well everything seems bad.
Look at the positives, you have no pain and eventually, hopefully not before too long, you'll be feeling better in yourself.
As for the limp I wouldn't worry about that, I still limp sometimes and I'm a month further on than you, I'm not worried about it I'm sure it will go eventually and if it doesn't well at least I can walk, that's a bonus to me.
Oh terrible that you're down. Who would not be. Hope the 13th will leave you better informed and more hopeful. After all the antibiotics you need to try and build yourself up with good nourishment and supplements, pro biotics etc. it can make a big difference. I know I bang on about it, but I swear by the H202 and olive leaf extract. It will kill all infectious pathogens. H202 for respiratory infections is a godsend.. I take both. Still. Sometimes conventional medicine fails us and it's then we find out for ourselves out of desperation. Are you able to use the web and google all the published literature... It may help you to pull through this. You have to help yourself now. You may discover another way to at least improve. I speak from experience
Hi Denise , I hope you are feeling better today ... Do you live alone? I do and yes, sometimes I feel lonely and abandoned ... I don't have to be though - I have lovely friends but they have theor own lives ... I am 7 + weeks post-op - Limping and still not able to walk without walker (outside) or cane (inside) - pain in the good leg is bad - I cannot put my weight on it .. I started to sleep on my operated side a couple of days ago ... not comfy yet though but better ... I have been sleeping on my non-operated leg with a pillow between my legs ...
Hang in there .... you are not alone ... this forum has made such a difference in my life ...big hug
