We dont offer physio what you did when i had my other hip done !!! all ive had is a leaflet for exercises i had to push for it so awaiting an appointment !! Have you other hippies had physio and how much ??
HI Cazy,
I am in the middle of a 6 weeks physio session and have already been told may need to have a couple more. They have been very good and and the warm up exercises that we do there I also practice at home. They have also given extra strengthen exercises on the muscle. The physio team also work on the ward and they get you up and walking straight away. And check on while you are there! Unfortunately I couldnt due to nausea.
I hope you can get some physio, it is helping but for some reason I am finding it hard standing on my operated leg.
Ann
I think this varies so much. I’ve not yet had my op but my hospital seems to do a fair amt while you’re an inpatient then it’s just a leaflet and a video to watch. Really not every person is the same so they should really offer it to those who need extra help.
I hope you get some help you want. You could contact the physio dept yourself and see if they can help. Good luck. X
Oh sorry I see there sending you an appt. So that’s good. But it worries me that those who are afraid to ask don’t get.
Hi Cazy,
I was offered nothing, left hospital on second day with a piece of paper three exercises on one side and three on the other. When I rang the physio department the only answer to every question was “if it hurts stop” doh!, you are really going to carry on if it hurts.
Surprised you have been given an appointment for an x-ray, after my six week appointment with a member of the surgeon’s team, the next morning I received a letter for my next appointment May 2019.
Good luck with your recovery, hope all goes well.
I went to the GP, asked for extra physio and was prescribed a 6 week course, also got the physio to refer me for aqua therapy which helped a lot. also downloaded physio app from NHS, good info on exercises and how to progress onto the more advanced ones.
Hi cazy, I had my op 4 months ago, no physio, except a crib sheet. I followed the internet exercises but not religiously, I found walking much better, I have just come back from one of the busiest days in Ashbourne, without a stick and I feel great walking on any surface, tired, but good. Keep on with walking and remember a hip does not need so much exercise, walking is far better xx
No physio for me after leaving hospital. I went for a check up four weeks later with the physio and they signed me off and that was it.
Hi Cazy,
I am at 8 weeks post op and although I had one of the best surgeons in the country like others here I left hospital on day 2 having walked the corridor and a flight of steps up and down with crutches. No other physio and just a sheet of home exersises to do in bed and when standing. I made sure I did the exersises and at 2 weeks post op I saw the physio again and was given a few extended exersises to do at home which again I made sure I did as well as a fair bit of walking daily. At 6 weeks I saw the physio again and she said I could now stop the exersises as walking gives all you need for a hip. At this point I was walking fine with no sticks just have a slight limp which I am finding it difficult to lose but I am walking a lot and with no discomfort unless I overdo it and then next day my body tells me I did too much. Been back at work since week 2 but I am not a manual worker and been driving since week 2 also with no problems. Every day I am a little closer to whee I want to be though I realise its a long process and we are all different and heal at different rates. Take it easy and keep exersising as much as you can and you will eventually start to see big jumps in improvement.
I arranged for physio from my own GP (UK here) as my new hospital is a long way away.
Just realised, that looks like the GP is doing it - he isn’t … physio is offered locally, but I needed to be referred by my GP to get it.
