hi everyone. basically i had a covid test on tuesday. the results came back clear today thank god which im so relieved about. i called my gp back this afternoon to see if this cough and chest pain might be anything else and if i could get some antibiotics or something else incase its a chest infection or something. cz im still caught for breath and have a cough irritating my chest. the doctor i spoke to was not mine because he wasnt there so i spoke to the one that was there because shes in the same surgery. she basically told me to stop ringing the surgery looking for reassurance. And that i was wasting her time. not her words but she might aswell have said that.. i wasnt looking fir reassurance i was looking fir something ekse to take that would help this annoying cough and chesty feeling go away and now she has made me feel like pure ■■■■. I didnt know what to say. inkuat came off the fone and cried. i cant believe a doctor would say that to someone who suffers from severe anxiety anyway. like i feel like changing my gp. even though my own gp that wasnt there today is super nice and would have never have said something like that. feel so low now ![]()

Yes, if you call the wrong doctor you can get that reaction sometimes. Lets not forget they are under an extreme amount of pressure with COVID going on too. I think you should try a decongestant for your cough and chest. Its cheap and its easy to try without a doctor. With any luck if your chest is congested because of cold or allergies, the decongestant (like Mucinex) will relieve the mucus build up allowing your lungs to function normally again without pain or coughing. Many people forget its still cold and flu season as well as allergy season, pollen, mold spores and dust are everywhere. If you are not feeling better in a few days after trying the decongestant, then call your GP again. Thats really the only thing it could be, once all else is ruled out. And please dont take what that doctor said personally, they are under a lot of stress and she probably wasnt thinking when she said it to you.
hi david yeah you are right. i apprexiate what they are doing so much just felt awful afterwards. what im going to do is im going to pop down to my pharmacy tomorrow and ask for that and see if it helps. thank you so much.
that was pretty rude of her. Since you don’t have COVID-19, you most likely have a different virus. Any doctor at this point would tell you to do home treatment unless you have severe symptoms. Treat this as you would treat having a bad cold or flu. Get rest, stay hydrated with water, if you have a portable humidifier it’s good to breathe that in because it will loosen mucus that may be in your throat or lungs.
and there’s nothing like good old chicken noodle soup that has actually been shown to fight a virus such as a chest cold. also, cough drops can ease a dry cough and soothe an irritated throat, a teaspoon of honey may help a cough , Try in some herbal tea! avoid tobacco smoke or any other kind of smoke.
Forget that doctor. She was probably just crabby with all the extra caseload going on right now.
as Long as your cough doesn’t get worse or you develop a fever, do these things that I mentioned at home.
You are going to be OK! ![]()
