feeling as if I'm "on a boat"

I have had vertigo for about 8 years now but I don't have it constantly I can go for months without any symptoms then for no reason it comes back and can last months I have trouble avoiding door frames and walking round furniture and crossing the road is a nightmare ,doctors say there is nothing they can do and is something I just have to live with it ,good new is I it's not live threatening.

Does anyone else have similar symptoms ?

Hi I have the same boat feeling for 20 months and nothing helps. I have seen allkinds and nobody can help me... They said it will just go away one day. But you just scared me by saying yours has lasted 8 years I hope you are ok .. I feel like my life has stopped . I was nearly better just had anxiety left. The last week symptoms started gettinh worse again and today and yesterday feel like I've back tracked a years progress. Giving up now xx

Sophia I know how you feel and its difficult not to get depressed but try not to let it get you down I just try to carry on as normal but it is hard but as I said it's not life threatening but it will go ,sometime I have good days and bad then it disappears altogether for months.

What is the cause? Mine is supposed to be BPPV! It almost went then returned after I had surgery! I am not convinced it is only BPPV though!

Hi Stephen ,Im sat here now with bad balance ,I've had this now for 4 yrs ,every day I've got Mdds ,Rocking/Swaying motion ,seems worse when my ears have that full up feeling ,from allergies I've got .Its a problem no one seems able to solve ,I suffer from tinnitus ( ears hissing ) do you have allergies or tinnitus ? Do you suffer bad neck ache ,most of us do and have in the past with balance .

I wish I could get respite from it ,days my allergies are lighter ,my balance seems lighter ,hard to explain .

Hope you've read up from others on here ,Gillian is good to read her postings .Wish I could help tell you what's best to do ,but I'm as much in the dark as everyone is on this site and others .One miserable condition ,puts your life on hold .

Hi Sophia ,I see you have same as me Mdds ,I've just posted to Stephen about the balance ,It crosses all ages ,do you have any of the things I've mentioned few mins ago .? Just had a relatively good couple days ,but today is a sit down day ,bad allergies ,I do get what's been said as Baratrauma tinnitus ,think they doesn't help my Mdds period .Sorry you've got this ,what's your age ?

Hi Stephen that's the way I look at it too - not life threatening, can be life limiting, but there you go, you can live with it, well I can.  Mine has never really gone away though, good days and bad days, but nothing as severe as the first attack. The neurologist has always said that even when I think it has gone completely, it can come back. So, I just get on with my life. Sometimes I am more off balance than other - usually when I am very tired physically and/or mentally, and this times I am extra cautious especially crossing roads.

Good luck with it, hope you feel better soon. Christine

I do have neck and shoulder pain but wasn't sure if it was related I also have hissing in my ears and the feeling of them being "full" I also tend to be worse in the summer months .

Hi Stephen ,Id say you've got an allergy problem ,try taking an antihistamine for a week ,Boots own brand are good ,failing that get Dr to send you off to ENT ,get them to check you out ,not saying there be giving you a cure ,don't happen ,but your be on the books so to speak ,if it's a summer thing, then the histamine should help .Worth getting it all checked ,I would .

Thanks for that Marlene will try that .

Yes, started in 2013, i always have trouble walking through doors, onto different levels, stumbling about like the drunken sailor, visual problems, then having periods of respite and then having another attack of BPPV and back to square one.  I am due to see a neuro otoloist end of July.

Hiya Anne was going to see how your week at work has gone ,any joyful outcome for you ,?

I've had a fairly mild 2 days Tuesday and yesterday ,my sinuses bit easier ,so facial pain eased off ,tinnitus bearable pm ,now today back to the normal rotten day ,ears hissing so loud ,sinuses painful ,and all of my face is so achy So a ticked off day all round ,my husband said yesterday ,maybe it's easing off ,as Id been up on my legs for longer over 2 days ,so I made most of it ,until the tennis started .Make hay while the sun shined didn't last for long .Weather been hot here ? Like we both know ,this is how it goes ,day by day .

There was something put up on a site Im on ,will pm you it Anne .Good read .hugs Anne xx

Hey Stephen..the boat feeling..that describes it..sometimes just trying not to sway .  Again, prayer for all who are suffering. And please try the sinus cleanses..two or three times a day..1 tsp sea salt and 1/2 tsp baking soda in a cup of water..use bulb syring or neti pot (i think the syring is more effective.)..use one cup per side..You can google on how this works. If  your ears pop...so much the better!

Hi I'm sorry about everyone suffering too. Cab you please explain the process of what to do with this. One of my ears has been blocked since this started. I mean when I close my nose and blow. No matter how hard my left ear will not. Maybe it's my tubes. When I eat I get dizzier, and when I have a cold I get set back but past few days I've had sinus aching and headache ect and it's been allot worse so maybe I jist need to clear them xx

Hello, just come across this forum,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.. I've been feeling lightheaded for the past month now, it only happens when I move my head about I get like a strange feeling for a few seconds then goes until I move my head again, I'm only 21 years old and it's getting to me so much now anyone help me??

Hi all on this site ,here's a tip from my elderly aunt ,in regards to bunged up sinuses ,she passed on to me .

Get the household pepper pot ,what you'd use at meal times ,tip up pot between thumb and index finger ,( fleshy soft spot ) don't shake pepper on just tip up once ,then sniff the pepper ,it will be grains ,hard to see ,but this will bring on a sneeze (s) ,I now do this on my worst head/facial painful day ,it then starts to shifting that head mucus .this has helped me ,as Im allergic to antihistamines ,the pepper is only thing that's worked for me to get the mucus moving .Give it a try .remember just see to it that its grains only need a minute amount .My aunt into her 80s so guess she knew more to it as she suffers from sinuses to .

Hi Marlene, my right nostril has started being blocked again but think i am having hay fever.  My balance problems appear to have completely disappeared past few weeks which is good news, but i've been here before and it can always return out of the blue but i am enjoying the respite from it at the moment as i have quite a few health problems at the moment that are taking up my time.  If you breath through one nostril and exhale through the other this is meant to help.    Hugs back Marlene.  xx

Sophia, the blocked ear is exactly what my Dr. found when I went in for vertigo..That's what the sinus cleanses do: enable the eustachean tube to move. (ears pop) Wishing you well.

Thanks Marlene..Those old time remedies can be the best!

I had that same experience repeatedly for years...until i went to a chiropractor...X-rays showed a damaged neck (courtesy of a bad ex-husband)...Adjustments helped so much!!! I became lucid again. But this was a separate issue from inner ear disturbance....I pray you're better and soon.   Still,  you might want to ck out your problem with an MD.
