My friend who is a very experienced and highly qualified nurse and I have had our right hip replacement surgery just two weeks apart. She told me not to even consider going back to work until 12 weeks after surgery and although she now works in a consultative role(desk job) in nursing she is not going to return to work earlier than that. The community nurse who visited to discharge me from their care yesterday, I'm two weeks post op, told me it takes 16 weeks for the healing process to complete. IAre you taking time to eat a balanced diet with plenty of protein and vitamin c? Are you drinking plenty of water? At this stage in your recovery you must have a variety of activities. Walk for a while then rest with your feet up. which you are unable to do while working these hours. If you are limping so noticeably you probably need to be walking with the aid of a crutch on the good side. I've had battles with my employer and I know they will continue when I return to work. Two years ago I ended up with depression, anxiety and agrophobia, all because my employer forced me to work beyind my capacity. You need to speak to your GP asap about this situation. My GP told me I must take control of my workplace situation and also sent me to a CBT therapist who helped me to change my thinking about my workplace situation. I joined a Union and I won't be pushed around anymore. I beg you not to damage your physical and mental health for the sake of a job. I'm still living with the damage I did to my mental health by working beyond my limits. I'm recovering but it a long road. If you lost your job at least at this stage you will recover given the correct amount of time after surgery and be able to look for employment very soon. If you carry on like this you may end up unable to work for a very long time. I'm not trying to be full of doom and gloom.I just don't want you to suffer like this, please believe me, it isn't necessary. It sounds as if your boss is a bully. You need to present him with evidence from your GP or orthopaedic consutant that this work regime is impeding your recovery. Record every converation you have with him about this as evidence in case you have to quit and need to consider a case of unfair dismissal. Please don't feel that you are trapped in this situation. There is support there. Do you have a HR person or personnel director that you could talk to?
Sorry, if i have ranted on but having been there myself and been re educated this sort of scenario makes me very cross.
Please don't continue being a victim. Very best wishes. E
