Feeling Happier..

Went for my 2nd lot of physio today and he was very pleased with me,i thought he was going to say otherwise..My bend is now at 95 degrees, and i need to do a bit more work on my quads as they are being a little lazy, but good news for 3 weeks post op,and he put me in his TKR class for next time, thats when the hard work begins...feeling positive

That's great Lou. Keep going. I loved going to the TKR class, you'll get a real sense of achievement.

Anything that shows a defineable progress is so important. We don't use the class method of instruction but when you have 5_7 people all at different stages and you can measure your progress with theirs it really gives you motivation to keep on keeping on .........good luck on the next level

Thanks Kathryn,looking forward to it..

Thank you,i know theres still along way to go but little things mean alot at this stage ...

Hi Roland,

How are you doing? I don't read these posts much anymore being a year post op now, I'm not in the same stages as most of the people on here.

It's nice to see a familiar name now & then and I often think of you & wonder how you are doing. Are you home?

I will see my surgeon end of month for my year check up. My only issues are that it feels like my TKR leg is shorter than the other & I feel a "pull" & pain in upper theigh & groin when I walk, which I wonder if it's my hip that needs replacing next! I admit to having gotten lazy about the exercises & feel I may have gone backwards a little because of it. I wish we had TKR classes like they do in UK - they would inspire me!

We are moving into a new home next month so I've been crazy busy, one reason I've not exercised.

My good wishes to you & your wife!

Betty

hi lou i feel very let out here as ive never heard of tkr classes . here in ireland you get your tkr kept in hospital for 3-4 days and your home 2wks later you get physio depending how you are . maybe once a week or maybe every two weeks but once you have a reasonable bend thats it the physio session lasts about an hour but its not for the hour if you know what i mean as physio lets you do excersises on your own and comes back to you every so often .   classes sounds such a good idea ,i think here they dont want you mingling incase you learn too much about surgeons  great your doing so well keep it up

Don't get too envious ladies. In the UK it varies greatly depending upon health authority. Some regions don't have access to physio full stop, sent home with just a fact sheet. Luckily I'm not in one of those areas...

Hi linda,

As kathryn says it does depend on where in the Uk you are,im on the Wirral and we have good physio, but some health trust dont have any...i should not of advanced to TKR classes until 4 weeks but my physio seemed to think today im ready for it,i just know its going to be hard work but so worth it.x

I'm starting knee club next Tuesday Lou, and looking forwards to it, and am on the wirral!!!!!! I'm going to clatterbridge physio dept.

I'm in the UK and 8 and a half weeks post op.  NHS sent me to a private hospital to have TKR done - sent me home with fact sheet, had 'physio' once a week for a month wher I went in, they bent and straightened my leg (never measured it) and showed me 3 exercises to do for the following week. 10 mins max each time.

So I've been trying to pick up tips on here - Denise from Oz was great and explained some great extra exercises for me to do.

wow i wont complain abot hospital physio so  thats crazy no wonder your looking for tips here mind you i love hearing all the tips sooo helpfull  keep up your good work all excersises are important even if it drives you crazy  my grandchild had a pull along with bricks in it with wheels i find it great i sit on a lowish table and scoot my leg back and forth with my foot on the bricks its great and everytime i try to pull it back further under the table and hold the wheels make it smooth pull .also when i go to my grandchilds house i use the swing i just sit and push the bend while on the swing it really works to loosen the knee my grandchild thinks im hogging the swing

Good to hear from you and all is going well. The thought of having to pack, lug and tug sends cold chills up my spine......even with a new home as a reward. We've talked about a couple of these senior living places where you can go from independent living to full care assisted living as needed. We have decided well stay where we are and just dump all this crsp on the kids when the time comes.

I just got ba k from the Dr with good news. I am going home from rehab tomorrow. I'll start home health PT Monday and move on to out patient PT the next week (3 x's a week). Even with the leg in the immobilizer since Mar 4th I have about a 60° bend naturally and I'm almost flat (about 2 to 3). As soon as I feel steady and strong enough I can go back to the cane. He doest want much pressure applied for bend till I get to a 90. All in all, looks like things are pretty positive for a change. I can start driving next week. The leg is terribly weak so have a lot of work to do in that area. I will try early morning walking as summer in the Midwest is definitely on. This morning @6:30 the temp was 77 F and the humidity was 77% At 2 p.m. it's 92 and 55%. Best wishes on the new home. Hope you are able to enjoy it for mAny years to come. Stay in touch as time allows
