Sorry to ask did it feel like an out of body experience like u were doin normal things but didn't feel myself I too finished a course on Wednesday but today is Monday and I'm not feeling myself at all.
I feel the same way! I was on a taper for a week. I’m getting very nervous. I feel like im floating or something very dizzy like and my eyes won’t focus right. Very very tired. I just feel weird all over. I didn’t know steroids could do this stuff. I was scared there was something wrong like s brain tumor or something really serious when I started getting sooo dizzy and my eyesight got weird. Anyone else have dizzy and vision eye symptoms?? Help I’m so scared. Sending prayers to all

Hello everyone, I had posted a few months ago about my horrible experience with prednisone and I'm just now seeing new posts, first of all thanks to everyone who responded it gave me hope. I wanted to address some new post to give them hope, yes it will take a while even maybe a few weeks to feel normal again but it does get better so hang in there I know its horrible but it will pass it was a nightmare for me I was going crazy.
And for those talking about the out of body feeling I got that too, its called disrealization or depersonalization you can look it up, but of course with the prednisone it felt even scarier. Don't worry I'm so sorry everyone I know how horrible it feels
Thanks Angela I hope it passes really quick I would not wish it on anyone my doctor tried to tell me the prednisone should be out of my system after a day.i just looked them up and it's exactly like that. I will never take that steroid again I'm gone crazy on it
I understand I will definitely never take it again it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had I thought it might kill me. You'll be okay I promise keep us updated!
Thanks Tammi for your post. It's educational.
Hi M,
How are you feeling now? did the steroids help with your sinus infection? Also how did you know you had a sinus infection, did you get a nasal endoscopy or brain/face mri? I ask bc my sister is in the same situation. Her ENT thinks its a sinusitis and gave her Prednisone 30mg for 10days including tapering but now she feels achy. She was on doxy for 10days but is still having facial pain and headaches. SO the doctor thought she could have inflammation and gave her prednisone. So I was wondering if it helped with your infection and its the side effects. Thanks in advance!
I have been on them for 8 years straight. This happens to me every time my dosages is dropped ,
Disturbing so many doctors seem to have little understanding of the importance of SLOWLY tapering this drug. It can be very effective for several conditions but slow reductions are vital !!
Connie, may I know what sickness you have for taking Prednisone for 8 straight years? Its normal to get different side effects from this drug, so I feel it's actually better to ask the doctor to start in small tapering dosage and see if that works rather than the short bursts of higher dosage, so that it won't feel so worse when you wean from it. I was given this med. more than 10 yrs. ago in small tapering doses for coughing incessantly in a day - and I didn't notice any side effects and it got rid of the coughing. I wonder why they give much higher doses now. Higher doses seem to come with more side effects. As patients, we should learn much about out sickness and its medications, so that we will be able to discuss these things with the doctor. We know our bodies better than they. We are able to convey to the doctors what we want when we have educated ourselves with our sickness and not just take whatever the doctor prescribes, especially if its a new drug. There are many side effects taking this drug online - happens in different intensities with patients. In my case now, its dizziness and insomnia.
I read online that the normal dosage of this drug is 5mg up to 80mg a day. I have experienced two types of taking it: 1) in tapering dosage and 2) in short burst therapy. I have tried the 1st one (10 yrs. ago) in smaller dosage for an incessant coughing everyday. It worked and I didn't feel much or any side effects. This 2nd one (for the same sickness except that I had minor asthma), had a higher dose of 60mg/day for 5 days. This was to be taken 3 pills in the morning at one time because it won't make you sleep. First take, It gave me a headache/dizziness that I had to sleep off. I may have to taper it myself since its a weekend. There are many side effects of Prednisone listed online (search) and happens in different intensities with everyone. So, I believe it would be better to take in small tapering dosage (that works) than a burst therapy one, because it should have lesser side effects.
Hi i know this thread is old but im currently experience withdrawal symptoms and i would like to know are you back to normal and how long did it take to feel like yourself?
After only 3 days of 50 mg Prednisone.. I have chills, heavy muscle weakness, brain pressure, insomnia and very unwell feeling. Perhaps I should have tapered down. I had to quit because my heart was racing and couldn't take them for the full five days. I hope this goes away soon. I should have known that this drug could affect me, my CNS is so sensitive after 15 years of Clonazepam use. Thank you all for your input.
Dear Kristine,
I’m sorry you’re feeling bad. I know it very well. All you can do is ride it out. You’ll be better each day. Hang in there. I didn’t taper. I wanted it gone! It was awful. Just hang on. You’ll be back to normal soon. Know that there are people like me who sympathize and care.
Hi Julie
I’ve taken steroids a lot over the years for ulcerative colitis and never before have I felt so out of body like I did on this occasion. The doctor gave me 30 mg a day for 7 days I’ve never felt so ill headaches nausea and a general feeling of pain and tiredness I’ve never felt so awful.
Lisa, I feel so sorry for you, sincerely. I felt exactly the same and it was the worst feeling for me too. You poor thing. All you can do is ride it out. It will go away soon. Hang in there. This drug is just awful for some (us) and great for some. Hang in there. You’ll be back to normal in a few days. I know you don’t want to feel like this for a few days but it took that long for me. Not that long though. Something supposed to help and does this. What a mess.
Hi Bridget... i was prescribed prednisone for chest congestion causing breathing problem.
I was prescribed with 40mg for 3 days then 30 mg for 3 days and the 20mg, 10mg and 5 mg each for 3 days respectively. So it was a 15 days course. I just took the 40 mg and 30 mg pack so it was total 6 days i took the medicine and then i had to stop it because i was not able to bear it anymore. On the second of 40mg i started feeling very lightheaded or as you said like u feel u were floting and along with that i becane very weak with every passing day. Other effects were change in vision and focus of vision and dizziness. Now its already been a 6 days when i had the last tablet but till date i feel the same effects and i don't know how long it will continue. I feel very scared because its been total 12 days of this effects now since i started having the problems from the very first day of my 1st dose of 40mg and 6 days have passed away even after the last dose.
I understand your pain as well but its been 2 months of your post and i want tk ask how are you feeling now and how much time does it took for you tk feel normal.
Hi, how long did you had the side effects, i had the medicine for 6 days only and its been 2 weeks now that m off the drug and i still face severe side effects, please reply, your reply will help a lot to relax.
Hi, do you remmember how long you faced the side effects??
