Feeling like I'm drunk

Hi I'm new here and i've had vertigo for at least 9 months now and is starting to really get to me. I feel so dizzy and everything feels like it's moving around. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this vertigo.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jason.....It can be caused by many things. Have you gone to see any doctors?? testing???

Do you have hearing loss?  Do you feel the room is spinning around you or you are spinning?  Is the feeling continouous or are they short each time?  Is it triggered by body position, headache?  Do you have difficulties in focusing on objects, especially while walking?  Was it preceded by a flu or something similar?  Do you have ringing in the ears, a feeling of fullness in the ears?

Ia am interested as to why you ask if it was preceded by flu  or somethng similar? Mainly bcause i am convinced mine was after waking up one morning with what i thought was flu or virus, amd it has remained until this day 5-6 years later.

With regards to helping, I am narrowing down possibilites to perhaps an "-itis" e.g sinusitis, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis.  But I can help further if I can have more details, as asked for in my previous communication.

hi, well as you can imagine i have had all the tests and seen a NEuro, otologist, ENt, Audiologist, gone through three lots of VRT with different hospitals to no avail. HAve had BPPV, Menieres all ruled out and the only diagnosis i got is 'Chronic Disequilibrium'.

I get the 'swaying' type. IN the early days i also felt like,i was rocking back and forth. My eyes seemed to trigger a lot, but i had those checked and all fine.  I have learned since then that this is due,to sight, hearing etc not being  coordinated   as such, so the eyes are trying to compensate if you like.i have a problem with reading or anything where I have to focus on one area for too long as it brings exacerbates it.

i developed Tinnitus about 4-5 years before this happened. and i had slighthearing  loss in, i think, my right ear, which has become worse over the time i have this problem. I have inflammatory problems due to Crohns disease, which is well managed and I do not suffer with it very much at all. I was feeling healthy and energetic, then. Woke up,the next day feeling terrible.  Bad head pressure, very insteady on my feet, the rocking and swaying and feeling like I was walking on a mattress.  The Gp who came to my home said 'virus', stay in bed, fluids etc etc. I, pushed for anti biotics incase it wasnt, and he gave me a low dose one, which seemed to help a little.

when i wasnt feeling much better a few weeks later but able to get out i had acupuncture, and the first treatment worked....for 4 days!..and all thesubsequent  treatments (11) didnt!

Exhaustion also is a big part of it. initially could hardly function. NOw I have learned to plan ahead and allow the day/s after doing something to rest. and any kind of other sickness, headaches, a cold, stomache upset seems to affect things and the 'dizzinness' is worse, sometimes accompanied by nausea.

I dont have a sinus problem as such, but when i wake up can be congested, but once that clears i am fine. I have cut dairy out of my diet for years now too. Can't think,of anything else, sure there is more, but dont want to bore you!!

You do not seem to have vertigo or oscillopsia in your description, and therefore what you have does not appear to involve the vestibular system of the inner ear.  I am therefore not surprised that BPPV and MD have been ruled out.  As you have been to all the above specialities, I assume that calorics and pure tone audiometry were all normal, ruling out a hearing loss.

To clarify, did you say that you saw a neurologist?

Yes all those tests were done at the National in Queens Sq London. I Will recheck the results to see what they were.   I saw. Nuerologist at the Royal Free before getting to the Neuro otologist later on.  she didn't find anything notable.  I Do Get a popping in my right ear every timeI swallow, and mentioned th is to the audiologist way back, but he dismissed it.  I had my ears syringed about 10 days before this all happened, and the right ear hurt a lot when the nurse was using the water jet. But on mentioning this to GP later he also said it wasnt anything to do with my problem.

Tinnitus

Hearing loss in the right ear.

Popping in the same ear

Right ear popping with the syringe (same ear again).

Please let me know what your tests showed after rechecking.  I am very interested.

OKay i will have to go into my files as the summary from the National,is quite long and extensive to retype.

Hi Jason,I have had vertigo for 9 months too and I was fit and healthy until September then I was in bed with dizziness for a week then it eased off but I'm still really dizzy 24/7 I have ear pains at the moment and really dizzy but I'm taking a pill called cinnizirine which does help slightly, its a over counter travel pill but also used for dizziness. My ent doctor thinks its bppv but not certain,I'm only 33 with two kids and its really getting me down,I started improving up to a week ago its come back so bad,do you get any ear pain, noises or vision issues, when I get really dizzy my right eye goes a bit blurred, take care Lisa x

Hi,,I typed out a response with all the details but it,hasn't gone through, grrrr!

I Will try and redo, tomorrow. Or Can scan and forward.

I give birth three weeks ago ever since I've had severe dizziness I feel like I'm walking on a bouncy castle it's started with randomly I would feel I was spinning or turning to fast I then had a near passing out episode and ever since then I have been dizzy and can't stop been dizzy it's similar to the dizziness I get when I'm unwell but I've had antibiotics for suspected infection I'm now on iron tablets I really don't know how to cope with this because obviously I have a tiny baby to look after and my other children but I can barely function because I'm so dizzy all the time I have got low iron but doctor give on tablet a day for 30 days so it can't be that bad to give me these symtoms surely I feel like ill never be able to leave my house again

I have but they haven't been very helpful. I've just had some blood tests done and give several medications such as serc. Nothing found *sigh"

No hearing loss but some ringing in the ear. YES! the room feels as if it's spinning, especially when I move my head. Eyes tend to blur quite a bit. Ear also feels warm at times. Do you have any ideas of what it may be?

I don't recall having a flu, not too sure as it was quite a while ago when it first started. Can flus triggr vertigo?

Thanks for the info Lisa! Really needed this, I can't believe people like us have to suffer with such conditions. I will try out the medication that you've been using to see if it helps me out. God Bless

I can barely leave the house as well REellty don't know what's going on with me at the moment. The bouncy castle thing definitely applies to me  too, all this swaying is a big no no. Hope this ends soon

All the symptoms you describe raise the suspicion of a vestibular disorder.  The eyes blurring is probably due to nystagmus.  The long history (9 months) tends to argue against a vestibular neuritis, but the spinning with head movement could be due to benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which can be easily diagnosed by a neurotologist, or by an ENT specialist with special interest in neurotology.  You should visit one of these two specialists.
