Feeling weepy

I am just over 5 weeks post op! Have just had a meeting with social services! I am in tears! I think they were hoping I would be able to do a lot more! So we have got an extension! Also I have asked for a carers assessment as I am struggling to cope with the care of my hubby! Am I being nasty?I hardly rest in the day! The top of hip gives me pain I have been in town on 2 crutches!I will be seeing physio too see what she says! I have arthritis in both hips and knees! Regards Amanda

Most certainly not nasty. You clearly need help and support. I'm glad you have an extension.

I am nearly five weeks and could not contemplate caring for anyone else. I've depended on partner and friends.

Take whatever comes, and ask for advice from Physio etc.

Hi Amanda

I do feel for you,ive been in your position as a carer. You need to insist that you get your carers assessment and tell them how it is for as YOU matter as well.

You have had a major operation and unless you are right health wise you cant care for hubby as you will wear yourself out....

Hi Denise! Thank you! Social services are annoyed with me as I have been bouncing off on Hugh s carers! They have agreed to extend the care package but I am worn out!my physio is coming on Friday and she will then talk to social services on Monday! I am doing my level best! But our lazey lodger could do a lot more! Regards Amanda

Hi Amanda

I would suggest you ask your consultant for a letter to explain your current physical capabilities for Social Services to read and understand that this is major surgery and not something that can be overcome in five weeks !! As well as that, ask them to read the various postings on this forum to gain some understanding of what we have all been through, some good, some bad.

As a last resort ask them to see the You Tube video, which I do not even wish to see myself but does provide an indication of theof the extent of the op.

Amanda, I will pray for you and I am sorry yu have so much on your plate while trying to recover.  I know your pain I have RA throughout 90% of my body and am worried that the hip op is going to stress out the other parts that bother me.  Just can't wait for tomorrow to be behind me!!!!  Feel better!

Trevor, I love the YOU TUBE IDEA!

Amanda,

It appears as though you have received great advice from others. So I will simply offer you my prayers that you will be granted the healing time you require from the powers that be.

Hugs

weep while they are not there but be emotionally strong when they are with you - speaking from bitter experience if they can save money they will  STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!! as previously suggested make them watch the you tube vid

keep strong xxx

It annoys me so much when I see things like this! Social services must have encountered this sort of thing on numerous occasions and must be aware that you cannot recover from this sort of surgery in 5 weeks! The advice regarding asking for a letter from your consultant is a good idea as it will carry a lot of weight. I am secretary for 3 consultants in the NHS and regularly type letters of this kind to housing associations, insurance companies who won't pay out for holidays etc and employment tribunals where people are being victimised or pressured by nasty employers etc and it really makes me angry the way vulnerable people are treated. If your consultant is worth his salt he will give you the letter you require and not mince his words. I know mine would.

The very best of luck to you and let us know how you get on.

Hi Ali! Thank you! I will be asking my physio to contact social services, as I am a carer I have my care support lady and see what she can offer! I know I have arthritis, and I am willing to help my hubby as much as possible! But we need that extra help!social services are willing to fund hubby but not me! What care is there for the exhausted Amanda carer?? Sorry to moan! Regards Amanda

Hi Valerie, your right! I did break down! As I know that I might have to have my knee done as well!and maybe left hip then left knee!!my hubby also has chronic arthritis but he's on painkillers! What care is there for the carer?regards Amanda

in nearly 10 years, since my Aspergic son had his psychotic episode, in all the dealings with mental health key workers / social workers / psychiatrists / psychologists only once has someone said to me - ` is there anything we can do for you?`  - i was so surprised I couldnt think of a thing!!!!!!

be strong

No problem Amanda and hey, moan away! A problem shared and all that and if we on here can possibly help then we will but we can't if we don't know about it.

Go sort them out! You can't be expected to cope if you are also carer for your hubby. It's ridiculous at best and despicable at best. I only wish I could do something to help! If all else fails, get your MP involved. That always seems to bring about results.

Good luck m'dear 😊

sorry that should gave said despicable at worst! I wish there was some way to edit our posts if we mess up!

I wish for the ability to edit after posting too.
