Does anybody else get a feeling of an adrenalin rush when falling asleep? I'd feel perfectly fine and then as soon as I start falling asleep all of a sudden I get this weird feeling my heart starts pounding, not fast just heavy, as if someone scared the hell out of me. But, as soon as I actually fall asleep I usually have no problem staying asleep and I sleep fine. Anyone else experiencing this?
Hi there,
I get a similar thing where just as I get sleepy enough to fall asleep I'll get a kind of jolt, like my heart has momentarily stopped and then restarted, like when someone makes you jump. It happens before I fall asleep and then immediately after falling asleep as well. I've told doctors about it but they have checked my heart and said it's fine so they aren't concerned about it. They have only suggested anxiety but I'm not anxious about anything. I have suffered from being very sleepy during the day for the last 3 years but I've only been aware of this happening in the last 6 months or so. I've tried Googling this particular problem as it feels pretty uncomfortable when it happens but not found a reason for it yet.
I've never had this issue. Do you do the deep breathing? Lay on your back, inhale through your nose to the count of 8, (with your stomach, not your chest) hold your breath for 7 seconds and then exhale through your mouth, like you are whistling, to a count of 8. Repeat a few times.. it is incredible how this makes you so relaxed and sleepy so quickly!
I sometimes get something similar to this. However, what I get is an anxiety attack that scares me so I'm wide awake and feeling sick.
Me too...it's horrendous....!
