I had a CT scan 6 days ago after visiting the ER with bad lower abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a large femoral hernia containing bowel loops, left side. A consultant managed to reduce the hernia (push back the bowel loops that were in the hernial sac) and I’ve been referred to the outpatient clinic to see a surgeon who specialises in hernia repair. My appointment is with the surgeon in 7 days. I’ve been told I will need ‘urgent surgery’ and that I am on the fastest pathway as the surgeon I will see can put together a management plan. I’ve been advised to go to ER if in the meantime the pain becomes severe and/or I have nausea/vomiting.
I’ve been shown how to reduce the bulge myself which I’m doing every couple of hours!
I had emergency repair of a double incisional abdominal hernia that became incarcerated 4 months ago and it was all very traumatic! I’m terrified that this might happen during the next 7 days with my femoral hernia.
Has anyone had to wait for urgent femoral hernia repair, and how long did you have to wait?
I’m in a huge state of anxiety, scared to move, so hearing about other people’s experiences would help. Thank you.
