Hi all
I had an appointment today at Gynocology. They have agreed to do a Laprascopic Myomectomy for my 7.5cm Fibroid. So I'm now 3 years and 2 months since Diagnos and finally I get rid of it. Posted this for any Ladies on here just to let you know there are other options than Hysterectomy x
Hi, Could you tell me where you are going for the laparascopic myomectomy? It's good to know where to go as most of us spend a lot of time trying to find someone who has the skill to do this procedure.
Hi,
Good to hear some positive stories here of fibroid removal - it would be great to know where you had the surgery as I am looking for somewhere in the UK.
Good luck with your procedure and you are right are other options than hysterectomy available. After 3 years wow, I thought I have had no progress after 18 months, I don't know how you cope with as for me it was a nightmare. Had my myomectomy done 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be more happier.
Hi Helen
I went to the. Royal Preston Hospitall lancs Uk. I. Went to the Gynocolgy clinic and I insisted on an appointment with a Laprascopic Gynocolgist. They have tried to push me into Hysterectomy since I was diagnosed. I said that if they are going to refuse the procedure then I went to hear it from the person who performs the procedure. I'm so glad that I did. The Laprascopic Gynocolgist had no hesitation in saying I can have it . I thought my age would be a barrier(51) but thankfully it wasn't.
My advice keep pushing for what you want I am proof that it pays off
Did he say what maximum is for keyhole? Mine 12x13cm :{
Hi Patricia,
Thank you so much for the info and I am so glad that you found the right surgeon. I'm the same age as you so it's great to hear your story. What's the surgeon's name? I will write to him as I have my MRI scan for him to look at and can send it online.
Well done for persevering - good on you!
Hi Patricia
I have refused hysterectomy as well. I have 3 fibroids and have had them for at least 7 years. The gyneacologist refused to perform a myomectomy so I said I will wait until I find someone who can/will perform it. I am also very stubborn. I had and still have an elavated CA125 level and that's why they were extra keen to do a hysterectomy. I had biopsies done and it was all fine.
I am now heading for another round of investigations, starting with an urgent ultrasound scan tomorrow as my CA125 level elevated. Last time it was decided it was raised by the fibroids and an ovarian cyst. I am bloated after almost anything I eat and have hair loss. It might be the right time for me to have the fibroids removed.
Have you ever heard of fibroids raising blood pressure? I have high BP which I take medication for. I have just had an episode with very high BP and ended up going to A&E first time ever. I saw an Italian study which seemed to indicate that fibroids might raise blood pressure. It would be wonderful if I had the fibroids removed and my BP returned to normal...
Hi Heather the maximum size removal via keyhole I think depends on the surgeon experience but in UK won't find many willing to do a keyhole on yours, they will probably give you med to shrink them before. Up to 10cm is considered suitable for keyhole but again it has to do with the experience and the skills of the doctors as the laparoscopic sutures requires high skills.
I have read stories about doctors been able to remove via keyhole fibroids of similar size with yours, my doctor had removed bigger than 10cm fibroids via keyhole. Just keep asking, you will get your answers in the end, I am sure you will find a doctor that will do it.
Hi Paula
No I never had raised blood pressure. I originally had a 11cm Fibroid UFE shrunk it to 7.5cm. I tried one round of Esyma which failed. Didn't line the side effects so never had a second go. I insisted on an appointment with a Laprascopic Gynocologist. She said I can have the procedure so it's took me 3 years and 2 months to get to here.
So if your Fibroid are more than 10cm then ask for UFE then you will have more options. I was never having a Hysterectomy ever so I stood my ground. My 1st Gynocolgist would not do anything except Hysterectomy so after UFE I made sure I went to a different hospital I was not going to deal with that dinosaur again. I'm still annoyed that he put me through hormone injections and Endo Ablation which I thought was not necessary. Wish I had known them what I know now. This op would have been a lot sooner. So my advice keep refusing it's your body not theirs and stuff what the Hysterectomy lovers and here say just stand your ground.
Good luck
Hi Helen
He is called Rodriguez and he is at the Royal Preston Hospital NHS hospial. U.K.
Hi Patricia
I did stand my ground at the time. I have had an ultrasound this week and there was only one 4cm fibroid to be seen now instead of three. I am perimenopausal so they must have degenerated. I have a large ovarian cyst though Lucky me! I am expecting them to want to do a hysterectomy. I am ready for a fight and will only agree to hysterectomy if it is cancer.
Paula you are not the only lucky one.... I have a 2.5 cm cyst on my left ovary and/or possible endometriosis. At the moment I could not tell if they cause any problems due to having fibroids as well, will se now after the operation.
Stay strong and you will get what you want.
Hi Patricia, I also refused hysterectomy, I was told 4 different times on the NHS that due to the location and size it may lead to hysterectomy and they needed my consent. Eventually I found this forum and contacted a doctor in Romanian within 2 weeks I was booked for surgery. Had surgery on 7nov17, glad to say I am glad I met an excellent professional/team of doctors who sorted me out, 8 fibroids removed 3 largest were between 10cm to 13cm.my womb intact, I received an excellent after care and I am recovering absolutely well. I am extra pleased I took the decision to go abroad to get it done and cut out the wait from NHS. I have my life back and I am super pleased. No one needs to agree to hysterectomy if it is not absolutely necessary (and definitely not becos a doc is not competent enough to perform the right procedure)
Hi Paula, hope you are well. Have you had your surgery yet ? And if so how was it? thank you
Hi Helen, did you had your surgery yet? If so what you had done, please? Thank you
