Fibromyalgia & Breast pain

Hi There, I was just wondering if anyone else suffers from breast pain/tenderness due to Fibro?

I have pain elsewhere as well (thighs, knees, hips) but was really wondering if anyone else has suffered from this? My doctor thinks it is related to my fibro & doesn't think it is anything serious, since it is in both breasts & not in one spot. It is mostly on the sides of my breasts & my ribs are sore as well.

Hi, Just to show you are not alone, I have the same pain in my breast. I have even been to the royal marsden hospital to see specialist and had an ultrasound. I found a lump in my left breat and GP found more so referred me. They said that they are benign cyst. They also told me that pain in the area is a good sign, as to weather or not its cancerous? I too have found that since my GP has a sort of diagnoses lol, that they relate everything to the FM. If your symptoms change for the worst make sure you go back to GP!! Best wishes.

Thanx for the reply, yes I was told that MOST cancers of the breast don't hurt. So maybe that is why they said that to you as well? I guess there is an exception to every rule so, that is why I said most! And also that I have the pain in both breasts. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else out there has breast pain with Fibro? Considering there is muscle tissue in there, I guess it is possible. Lotties Mummy, do you have Fibro?

Yes I do have fibro and I also get the pains in both breast. along the outer sides. Sometimes they ache, other times are very tender, painful and more recently I have noticed shooting pain going right in to the centre of the breast. I could have got the cyst from breast feeding my daughter, may have had mastitis, but ill never know now as it could have been just fibro that caused it. I have swollen lymph nodes under both arm pits and also under my jaw and down front of neck. So maybe its all linked. Being unwell all the time you just don't know when to go and bother you'r doctor, it seams all they can ever do at most is prescribe you some more drugs to take :o( Anyway I am sure this is part of Acute Fibro which is what I tend to have constantly.

It's nice to know I am know alone sad Although I am not happy u suffer as well! Sleeping is a real challenge sometimes & wearing bras as well. I am sure hormones are also playing a role also. I am peri-menopause.

I also have breast pain, both sides! I had a mammogram 3 yrs ago and they found a 1cm lump, which I had a biopsy done on and showed to be a benign clump of cells, thankfully. Since then the pain has been constant and in my recent mammogram the results were satisfactory. I had wondered if it was a natural hormonal problem as I have been in menopause for 16 months now. I have also noticed that on occasion there is some bruising on both nipples too. However, I am unsure if this is a menopausal problem enhanced by my acute fibro, or just one a menopausal or fibro problem? Whatever it is, it's just another pain that I for one could easily mange without! I am sure I am not alone in these feelings!

Pam, Yes sleeping is a problem, you only have to turn in the night to be woken up by very sharp pain! Then it takes you ages to get back to sleep with pain. Bras are a problem for me too. I can still feel the lumps, if my kids jump on me omg do i scream. I only have to lean on them, go to scratch an itch unconsciously or readjust my bra and im in agony. Sorry you are going through this too. I am just having to learn to live with it and be carful.

Carol, I do sympathise with you. How awful that they made you go through having a biopsy, i though they might do that to me at one point. I'm too scared to mention that they still hurt to my GP as i know there only option is to operate and remove them. NO THANKS lol, i'd rather live with it as it is.

Hope things improve for pain wise for you both!

Really glad to have found this information! I have Fibromyalgia and M.E and have had breast pain problems for years. I had no idea it was related to the whole syndrome. Kind of a relief to know as those nights when you wake up and start worrying it's the big C are no picnic.

Hi I am copying an article which you may find intereting regarding chest pain, I also suffer myself & was getting concerned. A condition called costochondritis, which causes pain around the breast bone and ribcage, is common in people with fibromyalgia (FMS). However, a lot of people don't realize it's a separate condition causing this particular pain, and that it requires its own treatment.

hi, to begin with (will get to breast pain) i have had back pain that has got much worse from october last year and have been diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome which means i have to much laxity in my joints some people live fine with it but some people get chronic back pain the worst thing is i look fine to everyone and can do anything still as i can move to easily im not hobbling around like most people associate with back pain and this leaves me really upset as signed off work and i know how people judge but when something aggravates it (like sitting/ hovering etc for short amount of time) its incredibly painful deep within y lower back and this can set off a whole day of pain and rarely a time im not in pain or taking pain killers - sorry off subject but recently i have been getting really tenderness in both my breasts on the sides and especially when i lie down and overnight & esp in morning &when i get up it gets better throughout day and then when led down again they get more and more tender and sore during day to e fair it only hurts to nudge but after sleeping will wake to them being v.sore. i have been to breast clinic and they dont think anthing to worry about in relation to cancer but this does not resolve the issue it has been going on for too long for me to be from pregnancy. i have seen people mention FMS and it makes me think i have major back problems , my knees often hurt and had breast pain for some time (i know i have hypermobility syndrombe but i dont know with other areas of pain im feeling rather distressed.

Hi Pam069,

I have been having breat pain for maybe 5 years now, i know i am perimenopausing, this is very depressing for me, i did a mammogram two years ago

it went well and i did another 2 months ago and that was ok too, i have a running pain occasionally in my breast, i have pain at the sides also and under the breast i do have tenderness in my muscles in my chest when i press on it, i dont know if having back pain is a part of my breast pain/tenderness symtoms, as soon as i get up i and start moving around my back hurt i go to a therpist they gives me excercise it doesnt help much but i am thinking why cant i get better, i go back to the doctor again to see whats happening as i am not feeling normal i have soooo many symtoms in my peri menopause its crazy i count at least almost 30 symtoms , i have proberly gone through 6 years of peri menopause, this is veryyyyy draining well good luck to you and all the other women on this post, i have heard about taking certain supplements to help but not sure yet will let you all know more i know of one now which is evening primrose oil, i havent tried it yet, but i will this week when the stores are open as it is easter holidays here, greeting from the Netherlands Marlene

Hi I have hypermobility and fibromyalgia , I have severe pain all over including breast pain and have been to breast clinic due to pain twice , these 2 illnesses can sometimes be related , it's very debilitating and frustrating for me so I can understand you must be distressed , good luck x x

Hi there, I had a virus 2 months ago and went to the doctors as was still feeling very weak and started getting pins & needles in my hands, feet, arms and legs.  He told me it was post viral syndrome and gave me some amitriptyline. I have been tKing them only a couple of weeks, but noticed I've had this aching pain down the right arm and underneath by my armpit. It kind of feels sore too. I panicked because I lost my mom with breast cancer and feared the worse but can't feel anything?

after reading the forum I am wondering whether this can be FM as I suffered with it a few years ago. I think it was one of those things that seemed to disappear after a time and didn't really notice.

This week however, I have started to feel nauseous and slight loss of appetite. Still getting the pins and needles and the aching pain in my arm. Can these symptoms also relate to FM.

I do have had pain in the side of y breast, mostly in one ara.  Kind of like a burning pain.  had unltrasounds, MRI and Mammo...They said no tumors..horrayyy but what then is this pain?  I can feel it in my back, when I get it on the side of my left breast...anyone have this?

I'm glad you asked this question. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago & I thougt the rib hurting was from that. But, I had no idea it could cause breast pain as well. I need to get a mammogram just to be sure. But, so relieved others have had the breast pain well. I, also, thought it may be menopause. I had to have a hysterectomy 4 years ago.

I was wondering if anyone with fibromyalgia itch a lot. I've changed soaps, detergents & etc. Still itch, even if I get a impression from socks, covers from sleeping and all that, sends an itching jag. Lastly, if I wear anything clothing

that isn't a plain material, like cotton, just the feeling of fuzziness, extra threads, etc.I itch until I have scratch marks all over.

Hi pam just been reading the forum on your fibro, I havnt been diagnosed but have been having symptons on off for months and I am also in menopuase and have breast pain like a gnawing pain through the breast, pain in shoulder and ribs neck and general malaise , my question to you how can they diagnose this fibro I have always had knotted shoulders and took massage heat and seemed to get better but now it's worse , I ache all over like I have flu, but I get up keep going I still do yoga Pilates and other classss but eve and morning the worse, once I am up moving I am not to bad, I take pain killers most day which I have to take an acid inhibitor , I just want to know what it is and how to get diagnosed with all these ache pain. Bloods ok chest shoulder xray ok too, seeing my dr fri think she just think a pull muscle in my upper back . Hope to hear back as notice 2 months ago your post, also other problem of my symtoms is costochrondritos , I know I shouldn't google !!

I have been using iodine drops for several years at least.  I've been on iodine groups so I have not gone into this blindly....Every tissue in our body needs iodine and MOST are deficient in iodine unless one is consuming mega sea foods.....

When I've skipped iodine for a while, I would get breast pain and tenderness, so now never miss my dosing and no pains anymore.

I do not wear a bra now for over 4 yrs and have not taken mammograms for probably 25 yrs give or take....I was given the FM dx in 1999  and I also deal with body wide OA......Joy 76 US

Yes I have Pam and also was diagnosed with costocondritis(spelling). You get that pain under the Brest bone and it feels like a Heart Attack. Was admitted 2 years ago to the hospital had to have a heart cath to make sure it wasn't a heart attack! Scary!!

Hi all

so relieved to read this as I am having exact same symptoms and have on and off for around 3 years now. It's so worrying isn't it I have silicone breast implants and I only get the pain on the right side but it's like a burning gnawing pain. I am hypermobile and have never been diagnosed with fibro but I have so many symptoms that point to it I am convinced I must have it!

Strangely though all my aches and pains are only on the right side of my body, head to toe! It's crazy. Maybe as it's my dominant side, I don't know. Went to breast clinic twice 2 years ago and all was fine so I'm reluctant to keep going back but some days the pain is unbearable. Nice to speak to others in the same boat although I'm sorry you're all in pain too xxx

I have, osteoarthritis of my spine, degenerative disc syndrome, (I have 2 discs that's are badly protruding out in my lower back) right disc is trapping right & left nerve & left is trapping nerve on left side. I have sciatica in both legs, irreversible nerve damage to my feet & calves & I have bipolar disorder! I had. Nervous breakdown 2 years ago @ age of 40, to find out that my bowel had pushed through my vaginal wall & stuck to my bladder (I had a Hysterectomy in 2007) I had an anterior repair done last September, my bladder didn't work for over 2weeks & less than 6 months later, it has prolapsed again (not as bad as before) Now it took over 2 years to be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & i have a very high pain threshold,I've had constant chronic pain for over 14 years! I have never felt such pain with the FHM,i can't sleep, ive put weight on,it's made my bipolar worse. On to my breasts,i have always had sensitive nipples but in a good way, the last 2 days the pain I've got in my nipples is horrid, my breasts have swollen, I have to have a bra on to stop them rubbing on my tops, i have pain in my left breast @ the sides & it bloody hurts. I am glad to known that its associated with FHM. I had to say what all my health conditions are as I think losing my dad @ age of 7,being physically & mentally abused by my older sister,I'd get dragged out of bed by my hair & for 33 years i carried around the guilt that is was my faults my dad died. I've had 4 operations done. So I think that's brought on the FHM. I hate it when people look @ me as I dont look disabled, but they don't see me struggling everyday trying to get out of bed everyday or the fatigue i suffer a lot. The fibro fogs i get. But i won't let it get me down. Sorry it's so long & ive gone on,but you have to explain. I actuallyput freeze gel on my nipples earlier to see if it twould work,no. So am waiting for my son to get home as i am going to try ipbrufen gel/cream on them & see if that will help. Will let you all know.xxxx
