I have a fifth metatarsal oblique fracture of the shaft, displaced. It's been 6 months and it is held together by fiber. It is not really painful, but after a day's walking on it or running I do feel some residual soreness. One doc has said that operation is not necessary, it can hold as is. One doc has said that for the long term, a surgery will be better to get bone on bone contact and subsequent healing. He said that without surgery, he does not anticipate much more healing?
Any stories of nonunion spiral fractures treated operatively or non operatively? Successes? WOrds of wisdom?
