i saw the consultant on 3rd of March and decided to go ahead with the op. Still good and bad days seeing an osteopath which relieves back pain which I would say is my main problem. Now trying to loose weight is there a cut off for or BMI? I am 43 do you think I will need to have the bed downstairs for the first few weeks how did others manage. Hoping to get done mid May really nervous as had major hip op as 12 yr old and have bad memories of the pain.
Hi Caroline
Well done for deciding to go ahead. Pain management has come a long way since you first had a hip op and the team at the hospital will ensure you have the right medication for any pain. Try not to worry especially as you have a couple of months to go, getting well prepared before your op helps. I'm sure you will find this forum a big help and support both before and after the operation.
I think the upper BMI is 30 (?) but that might depend on you/your surgeon etc. I'm sure if he had any concerns he would have mentioned it on the 3rd.
Dont know your full circumstances but you shouldn't need to bring your bed down. I'm 8 weeks post op and have always gone up and down stairs to bed since the operation. I'm 64.
best wishes

Hi , I am 60 and 8 weeks post op this week . Stairs were ok from start . Nice to go up to have a nap . Good luck
Hi carolineob are you in the UK? I am 67 and had to have a bmi of 35 (15stone) before I could have the op I managed to get 2stone offand was141/2 stone when I had the op 6weeks ago but have put on half a stone since I got home .hoping to lose weight when I get around more
Hi Caroline things have come on a lot over the past few years especially in pain relief. I and I can't remember anyone else on this site, didn't have any pain.
You won't need your bed downstairs, you'll need to walk around as well as rest and you'll soon get used to stairs.
I don't know about bmi but if they've given you a date and not said you've got to lose a certain amount by that time then one would assume they have committed. We were all worried but after op come on here saying it was fine, the worse thing we seem to be united in agreement about is sleeps ng on your back !
Hi
If your cnsultant is happy to d it at you age...great.....some like you to be closer to 60.
As for your bed....no your shouldnt need it downstairs. I'vehad boh of mine replaced and found he stairs reasonabley easy. They will show you how t do them before you leave he hospital.
With me theway they tol me was th good {unoperated} goes up t heaven and th bad one to hell LOL
So good one first, bad one joins it on the same step then good one again etc
Love
Eileen
