I kept pushing off making the switch; hoping that the Citalopram would start working for me again (I'd been on 40 mg. for 5 years, with great success). Last week, I had pretty much decided to switch in early July.
But, I realized last night that it's kind of silly to keep pushing it off. For the last 7 or 8 weeks now, off and on I've had high anxiety, some days an almost constant feeling of dread, no appetite (lost almost 20 pounds now), and needing to take trazedone to sleep at night. To have to put up with all that for potentially another 5 weeks and THEN have to put up with the side effects of starting the new meds just sounded daunting.
So, I took Escitalopram this morning instead of my usual Citalopram:-). I'm prescribed 10 mg, but cut 3 pills in half, so I'm starting at 5 mg. I may even cut more pills in half, depending on side effects and effectiveness.
I feel better today, having made the switch. I was so anxious about switching that when I finally did, it was met with a sense of relief. So far, the only side effect I've had is a very minor upset stomach, probably due to taking it on an empty stomach. If I hadn't been looking for side effects, I doubt I would've even noticed it.
