Finally!

I've posted on here quite a bit in the past about my terrible groin, leg and thigh pain. I've been in agony. Today I actually saw a consultant who told me I would sooner or later need a hip replacement but he could offer me an injection into the groin (in an operating theatre) which woulg give me a few months of no pain. I just can't imagine what it must be like to walk and lie down with absolutely no pain. Heaven . He thought I  could have a tear in the cartilege which would account for the sudden vice-like 10 pain when I just happened to move my thigh even a few millimeters. Does anyone else have/had a cartilege tear who can understand what I'm talking about? The pain is so bad it makles you cry out loud.He also said I have marked osteoarthritis and a bone spur which could be adding to all my pain.

However one thing is puzzling me. I had a blood test a week ago and it came back the following day showing I was very depleted in vitamin D. My GP phoned and said there was a vitamin D3 presciption waiting for me at a chemist in town. I've only been taking this for four days but I feel far less tired and not in as much in pain in my legs as I was. Could this be due to this vitamin being reintroduced into my system do you think or is this all just coincidence? It just seems too far fetched to be true but my terrible pain and exhaustion are definitely less.....

However

I've been taking Vitamin D too. I've always been on the lower end of the Vit Down range but have never been prescribed any.

dear sarah,

There is a lot going on with you (understatement, I know) -;I read your previous posts (for some reason I didn't receive ) - the pain you are in must be horrible -

I don't know how to respond to your question regarding the tear in cartilage, but I do remember the bone-on-bone pain - I can only imagine that, in addition to you diagnosed OA, this must be even worse ...

Maybe the injection will help, but please know that it will be only temporary -

Great that the Vitamine D3 is working for you - feeling less tired and less pain could certainly be an effect, especially as it also lifts your mood - very important to feel more relaxed ...

Let us know how you are getting on okay ?

One question: do you like and trust your surgeon? do you feel comfortable to ask him questions ? (I was not with mine in the beginning - was very intimidated)

big warm hug

renee

Hi Sarah,

Sorry for your pain,

I'm not sure on the vitamin d but just to let you know I had the cortisone injection it was brilliant gave me 3 months of free pain.

I had oestoarthritis with bone spurs, my pain was like yours, groin, side of leg and back and lower hip area.

The year must be making it far worse, the oestoarthritis pain, dosnt really get any better, normally progressively worse as time goes on.

It's good to know that you feel better, it's worth researching vitamin d.

Best wishes

Nicky

Hi

Sorry the tear not year.

Nicky

Hi Renee, I dont think it's bone on bone pain with me because I still have some cartilege around the joint, it's less than the other side but it's still visible so I don't think I have bone on bone. I just want to feel pain free for a bit, go for a stroll along the beach and not cry out everytime something catches in my thigh and makes me cry out loud

Hi, yes I don't really understand this horrible thigh pain that comes out of the blue. It's like a red hot knife searing into the thigh in just one spot when i just move a fraction of an inch in my chair. Not all the time thank god but when it happens it sure is horrible.

ps yes my surgeon seems ok...I only met him yesterday but he's a good listener and explains well. That's all I can say really as I've only met him once....

I can imagine ... That kind of pain is breath taking, isn't it, and so exhausting -

I was told to sort of breathe into the pain when it happens ... might work for a little bit but not for long --- sometimes pain gets worse when we get tense ...

your surgeon sounds approachable and that is great ... are you considering the injection and will he/she do it?

angel blessings and sending healing rays

P.S.  when was the xray taken?   just asking because cartilage of left hip went from mild to bone-on-bone in 6months !!!  hence 2nd THR withing 6 months of RTHR ...
