I live on the east coast of Florida in Cape Canaveral area. Can anyone direct me to a doctor who specializes in Polymyalgia Rhuematica?
Welcome to my neighborhood.....Titusville....and I wish I knew of a doctor
that specializes in PMR.....my GP takes pretty good care of me but he
doesn't have much info on PMR....you will get the best advice on this
forum. Ask any questions you have and someone will be along to try
and help you....I've had PMR for almost three years and found the most
helpful info right here.
Dolly, your best bet is a rheumatologist. This is the specialty which deals with this on a regular basis. My family practice doc misdiagnosed me as fibromyalgia and blew me off.
Karen from NJ
Hello Dolly,
I live in Edgewater, Florida and see Dr. Maria Vintimilla, a rheumy, at her New Smyrna Beach office. She's been taking care of my PMR and GCA for the four years since we moved down here. I developed GCA seven years ago when my husband and I lived in the Albany, NY area. I did go to a rheumy at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville a couple of times. He felt things were being handled properly.
Dr. Vintimilla listens to me and lets me have say in my treatment.
Perhaps Faye, you and I could get together in Titusville to share information about this frustrating and painful disease. Jan
Thank you Karen. I have had several bouts of PMR and was seen by a rhuematologist that has since left the area. I made an appt with a new one and she has decided I have scoliosis and gave me a shot for the shoulder pain. I think she isn't familiar with this disorder and I was looking for someone for whom this would be a specialty. She reluctantly gave me a script for a powerpack of pred which gave the first relief Ive had for a long while but when I asked about a maintenance dose she felt it wasnt warranted. So Im looking and so very happy Ive found this forum.
Faye, thankyou for your input. I made an appt with my GP yesterday and he gave me a script for pred. I will try to find the dosage which will keep me pain free and then work down from there. I am so happy to find you guys and Im reading all the entries. Great info. I knew others had to have this disorder but I didn't personally know anyone.
Jan I am so happy you have found a good dr. The GCA has to be the most scary thing ever. New Smyrna isn't so far away but I guess Id like to find one closer to me. Id love to meet you girls when I get back. And thanks agin for your reply.
