First Post op out patient appt

hi folks .well I had my 6 weeks outpatient appt today post RTHR in may. if I was in the room 5 minutes I’d be surprised. the surgeon just checked my wound ( which is healing well ) asked if I was ok - get the odd groin pain now and again which he sd is more than likely muscular and then we will see you in a year ! but contact us if any problems. lol. I felt bit deflated really as thought it might be bit more intense but hey ho. shouldn’t moan . just for info I’m in England - Derby . Wouldn’t be surprised if its varies from country to country and hospital to hospital  was on their enhanced recovery scheme so expect it’s part of that.

Hi, Im in NZ. One of my 6 week checks was just with a nurse and a questionaire. The second hip was with the surgeon. Both checkups had an xray to make sure everthing was seated and healed properly, only 5 minutes
D

you should have had x ray to check every thing ok x they really dont care do they x

My 6 week appointment was also v disappointing! Didn’t see my lovely surgeon, except when he waved from a distance. I had a 5 minute chat with an underling, who basically said I should do anything I fancied. Except for wrapping my feet around my neck… (which is v unlikely!) I too was on enhanced recovery. I asked him if my x-ray looked ok, and he said it was fine. I don’t think he looked at it. I had a 7 month check which was better, and then I was discharged. I’m in North London.

I have to say that my six week post op consultation was also surprisingly brief, probably not more than a couple of minutes. The surgeon showed me the x ray, asked if there were any problems - no - and showed me the door while muttering something about seeing me in about eight weeks time. Well that’s six months ago and I haven’t heard any more. Fortunately everything has gone superbly well - but what if it hadn’t ??

Hi Julie, also in Derby but had mine at Nuffield, if it is any consolation, I had no PT, saw surgeon at six weeks at Nuffield, never even looked at my scar, although I was wearing jeans and boots so obviously knew I was comfortable, made me lie on couch and do leg lifts on my side with knee bent backwards, showed me xray from op, said all is fine, see you when you’re next one is knackered, no other follow up booked or arranged. John Rowles was my surgeon and I must say he is great, brusk, straight, happy but tells it as it is. I feel great but I also feel my other one is boogerd!! Where are you in Derby?
Helen

my 6 weeks should have been tomorrow but surgeon cant make it i couldnt make the next date so not seeing him untill 12 /8 hoping any concerns ive got my GP will be able to help with

hi perhaps they just checked the post OP xray taken 1 day after for me ? was surprised no re xray tbh. I think he assumed I was walking all was well. sd if problem to contact surgeons sec . live in oakwood so plenty of lovely walking routes
julie

hi tbh I was surprised. I’d gone really early as well lol. he was looking at my post OP xray . anyway hopefully all will be well

hi. thought this would vary . hopefully the next one even if a year should be more thorough in order to discharge me. but time will tell

he did say if a problem to contact consultant sec - saw underling but who was in theatre with the surgeon during my OP. think he sewed me up lol .

hi Lesley. hmm re new opa date. agree tho hopefully your GPcan answer any if your questions - might be better lol cos I wasnt in long enough to ask anything. good job I’d gone through the info booklet with a fine tooth comb to find out when I can do other stuff. probably why they think they dont need to see you for long cos it’s all in their info booklet.

I had two visits post op as was still unable to put full body weight on my operated hip at 6 weeks. But now on yearly checks and will have a follow up xray when I go back next year.
However I can go back if I need to, hopefully I will not. My last one was in with less than 10 mins!

Your six week appointment Julie sounds exactly like mine was. At the year appointment I had an x-ray, he looked at the scar, put me on the bed, put feet together that was it, then made an appointment for next year for an x-ray.

Hi Julie, not sure of your age and circumstances but I was discharged at 6 weeks, no further follow up or xrays

Hi Julie, were you stitched and stapled? I had internal disolvable and glue, so no need for removing, worked a treat for me and when I have my other done, I am asking for the same!!!

Sounds like I have it all to look forward to!! excuse my ignorance but what is enhanced recovery?
