First trip to Physio.....TKR +12 days

Good afternoon all.

I had my first appointment with Satan's minion, sorry, the Physio today. Turned out to just be an assessment, taking measurements etc....my bend is

72 out of a required 90, and extension 11 out of a required 5.

I thought I was pretty poor on these numbers, but apparently not, I'm about where they expect me to be. I think they must be taking into account the

fact I was bedridden for the first 4 days due to nerve paralysis, so I've only actually been mobile for 8 days. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun! I've got to attend physio and rehab twice a week starting next Tuesday, and

then see my consultant in 5 weeks time.

I can certainly tell I over did things yesterday, what with the evacuation and everything, knee is so painful and swollen again, like when I was first discharged. Must learn to take things easy, and avoid unexploded 💣💣💣💣😅

Terri,   Take care and keep trying.  Keep that sense of humor!  It will come in handy.

Those first few days when you can't move (Same thing happened to me) really do put you back compared with those who leap out of bed on first day (not many of them around methinks!)  With perseverance the bend does eventually seem to happen!  I've been stuck at around 90 for ages, and suddenly it's improved enormously, and no idea why!  My goniometer hasn't arrived yet (with Spain's postal service i'm not holding my breath) but I would think it was maybe 120/125 this morning!  Mind you, this afternoon it hurts!  You can't win . . . Take it easy today! xx

Hope you dont mind me asking, what is  nerve paralysis? I havent had my op yet(12 days and counting!) so am eager to learn what I am up against in terms of complications.Hope you enjoyed the sunshine.

Right after the op in my case, I was completely unable to move my ankle however hard I concentrated . . it lasted for five or six days, and made it impossible to walk.  Not sure if that is similar to what terri mentions . . I now have some sort of nerve damage in the thigh so that the whole area feels numb, similar to when you have an injection for a tooth extraction, and my foot is still partly numb (nine weeks)  I take vitamin B which is supposed to help. but I'm not really sure if it does any good.  Strangely, my home help has exactly the same symptoms, but hers was following a spinal block during childbirth . . so not sure if it was caused by the anaesthetic or by the tourniquet!  Whatever, it doesn't seem to be going away unfortunately.!

I don't mind you asking at all.

I don't know how often it happens, or if I was just one of the

lucky ones (!) But after my GA wore off, it was apparent that

the inside of my operated knee, from my ankle to mid thigh,

was totally numb. The on-call emergency doctor examined me, and explained that due to the large number of nerves in the

operated area, some off them could become badly bruised

and traumatised, and that it should resolve itself, but if it was

still there after 5 days they would have to investigate. Scary!!

Thankfully, the sensation started to return on day 4, and had

virtually disappeared by day 5.

I hope you manage you relax over the coming days, get

yourself well rested etc. And any questions, please ask away,

it's nice for me to start paying forward all the support shown

to me on this forum in recent months xx

Oh dear  mine is still numb after nine weeks. . .I would go back, but I cant really see what they could do about it!  I'm not letting a knife near me again!

thanks for that ,I suppose its logical that the nerves are going to be damaged sometimes I just never thought about it,although I have been warned I may end up with numb patches, which is obviously no where near as extreme.Glad your over it and moving forward.I  shall now have a nice lay down(excellent advice!)best wishes
