Fitbit

Hubby bought me a fitbit, now I am obsessed with doing 10,000 steps in one day!

Thats what they suggest. So far the most I have managed is 3,320, but that's today and it's only 2pm.

Has anyone else got the bug?

almost 22weeks post TKR - Australia

Hi Caz

I don't have a fit bit but i have a Samsung Galaxy gear 2 which is a watch. It does everything a phone can do and more including recording my steps, distance etc. And even reminds me to drink water.

So i too have the bug now I'm back at work!

I get off the bus early and walk 2k to work and 2k back again in the evening. Plus, during my lunch break i go to the local mall and walk up to the 4th floor via the travelator!

What makes you better is unlikely to kill you.

Keep up the good work, but don't overdo it.

My son has the new fit bit which also records his heart and he is also obsessed, I think they are great and may get one myself.  One point, 10,000 steps is a good day, but possibly a bit much for someone who has recently had a TKR, I think you are doing very well!  Perhaps 10,000 by the summer would be a better aim!!

Hi!!!!! Good to hear from you again. Sounds like things are continuing to improve. Last time we heard you were experiencing the horrible fires then I saw where cyclones were pounding part of the country. I know most don't look forward to winter but sounded like Australia was looking forward to anything that would get things settled down. Its amazimg what a different form of motivation can do. I suppose you and your husband finally shook the stomach problems that had you down for awhile. Take care and hope you hit the 10000 mark soon. We are still in the depths of winter. Hasn't been over 30° F for a week and a major snow is forecasted for the weekend. My neighbors winter in phoenix Arizona and wisely have extended the stay til the end of march. Looks like they still might be fighting the cold but hopefully the ice, sleet, and snow will be gone by then

Oh dear never heard of a fitbit, but it sounds like a good idea!  going to look it up on google.  10000 steps seems like a lot to me, but I suppose during a whole day it adds up . .do you do some long walks ??

How I would love to have a FitBit, but the finances just won't allow right now.  Enjoy yours!

Hi Caz

I also bought a Fitbit but have not had the patience to get it figured out yet! Don't you have to hook it up to your computer?

Your post has me motivated now, especially since my weight is creeping up on me again. I'm sure the Fitbit will motivate me to walk, curious to see how close I get to 1000 steps a day

Thanks for your post!

Betty

Hi Suzi,

So glad that you are on the mend. The last I heard you were having a lot of pain. I couldn't walk as much as you do each day. I get bored walking, and too hot.

Caz x

i can't overdo it, my knee won't let me.

Hi Liz, I haven't reached anything near 10,000 steps yet. The most I have walked is 4610.

It is summer here, and a very hot one, so I walk in the evening, braving the mozzies.

Keep up the good work.

Hi OFG,

Yes, things have started to really improve with my knee. I am trying to live a normal life. Maybe one day I won't even think about my knee, wouldn't that be good?

They still haven't caught this fire bug. I am starting to hope that they don't, people are talking about stringing him up and setting fire to him, it's got that bad. Last week we had a fire so close to us that we were packed. We could see the flames from our garden, all the roads were closed.

Thank God for the fire fighters, they worked all night to just control the fire. The water planes were flying over all night too, amazing to see them.

Your cold weather seems extreme too. I miss snow, but not for long.

How are things with you? and your wife?

No, I actually hate walking. I get so bored. I Never wanted a Fitbit, but my husband insisted that it would motivate both of us to walk, he was right ( don't tell him I said that) we now go for a walk each evening, just round the block, 2000 steps, we take one of our dogs and chat as we walk. It's nice, much better than watching TV or dissape airing into the Internet.

its only a toy really. Once walking becomes a habit I probably won't look at it. The interesting feature for me is the sleep pattern. I never realised how much I was awake in the night.

Hi Betty,

I have an app on my iPhone that the Fitbit talks to. It even tickles me when I get a text message. I didn't sync it with anything other than my phone.

10,000 steps is still way out of my reach, but hubby has done that by lunchtime!

Thanks Caz

i seemed to turn around a couple of weeks ago. - about 14wks post op.

Suddenly realised it didn't feel so tight and sore.

I had a couple of days after that, that was bad but in the whole feeling loads better, thanks!

I've just cleaned up the balcony and sorted a few plants and noticed i felt almost normal!

I^even stood with my weight on that side for a while before it reminded me! smile so hot out there too!

let me know how you get on with the fit bit!

Norma is doing about the same. Hopefully they have found her stomach problem apparently she has elevated folic acid which is causing food to stop and rot instead of digest and pass through. There is only 2 hospitals in the metro that has the equipment to diagnose and verify. If that's it a sole antibiotic will kill the bacteria.

As for me, not so good. My inflammation markers continue to be badly elevated. This required me to have my knee drained resulting in the lab finding the staph was back. I go in wed and they will open it up, take out the hardware, flush, medicate, put in a spacer and PICC line, sew me up, immobilize for three months , 3'weeks of which will be spent in a rehab unit. After 3 months new hardware goes back in and I start pt all over again

Actually this is making me quite Ill. I'm becoming weak and every bone and muscle in my body hurts. I will be on antibiotic infusion for 2 months. The doc actually wanted to do the surgery Thursday but that only gave me 3 days to make arrangements for my wife but he said it had to be done by next weekend so Wednesdays the day. I'll be on the hospital 4 days........then off to the rehab center

Not what I expected

Oh dear,

I am so sorry to hear this.

You must be going out of your mind. What a horrible run of bad luck, and all from that fall?  It's no wonder that you are feeling down.

This must be costing you heaps too. Especially in America. I don't really know much about your health system, but it does seem very expensive.

All I can say is that I hope when this is done that will be the end of it and you can finally start to heal and recover.

Best wishes for Wednesday, I will be thinking of you.

Pop on here when you can and let us know how you are doing please.

Hi Caz

I connected my Fitbit to my iPhone app - now a few dumb questions, as it does not explain it anywhere.

When you are walking, do you have to have the Fitbit app open? Can you talk on the phone while walking & it will still track? What about tracking steps around the house, yard, etc. do you have to carry your phone with you?

Do you wear your wristband 24/7?

Sorry 'bout all the questions! 😜

Thanks Caz, Betty
