Has anyone experienced a flare-up on just one side of your body? Neck, buttocks, leg.
It is very unusual for a PMR flare to be just on one side - one criterion for PMR is the pain and stiffness being bilateral.
If it is very one-sided I'd be more inclined to think of something like myofascial pain syndrome which is often found alongside PMR.
Although I know that PMR is classically one-sided, I've encountered numerous one-sided pain dilemmas since starting my journey 3 years ago. I've had rather consistent right-sided pain under my ribs that ebbs and flows depending on my prednisone levels. I've also had a left-sided pain in my groin that goes away if I increase prednisone levels. I realize these might be myofascial in nature, as Ellen has described. Or, it could be related to something else that's going on (although it definitely goes away if I increase prednisone).
BTW, I have experience my 1st flare since starting. I got all the way down to 1.5 mg, and then WACK. Hip, lower back, and leg pain. Bladder pain also at night that went away during the day. I was going on vacation so I upped my prednisone to 5 mg, and all symptoms disappeared. I'm back down to 3.5 and the symptoms are vaguely in the background.
FYI.
