It's now 5 weeks since my TRHR and I've been very happy with my recovery.

The question I would like to ask is how much longer will I need to visit the bathroom practically every hour, day and night. My right foot is very swollen but I was assured that was quite normal.

I am feeling like a space hopper most of the time. Very bloated . All I'm taking are the blood thinners, surely that cannot be responsible!!

Anyone else having this?? X

Gosh Carol firstly well done!!

I say gosh as I had the same problem with not much sleep as lying on your back then up for the loo.

No one gave me an answer why this happened.

Mine stopped a couple of weeks after the blood thinner injections.

Keep going your doing great !!!

Carol, I am not sure why you need to go to the bathroom so often. May has something to do with medications you are on. As for the swelling, my right leg (bad hip side) was badly swollen for quite some time but it did go down eventually. If it persists, go and see your doctor or sugeon. It could be water retention.

Carol, I'm glad you are having a good recovery!

I think that for most of us, the very frequent bathroom trips are over within a couple of weeks. And I, for one, never had to go every hour. Are you drinking more fluids than you used to drink before your THR? If it were me, I'd be checking with a physician.

Is the ankle swelling a recent development, or has it been that way since the surgery? If it is very swollen, as you say, I'd also ask a physian about it. The doctor would know if medication that you are taking has anything to do with it.

Hi. I only joined today and I'm having the same problems. I'm on pain meds as well as blood thinners. I'm 10 days post op.

Hi and welcome Andrea. Glad I'm not the only one having this problem. When I get up during the night, I'm back to sleep almost instantly . Family and friends laugh at me because I hardly finish a drink and I'm off again!! Only 2 more blood thinning tablets left so I really hope they're the problem! Speedy recovery. X

Hi Julie. I only have 2 more blood thinners to take then hopefully this will stop. It's becoming a joke with my family and friends now. !! X

Hi Mark. Glad you're doing ok. I saw surgeon a week ago and he said swelling in foot and lower. Alf could last 2/3 months. Guess it's fluid retention but it's really getting on my nerves!! X

Hi Annie and thanks for reply. Ankle and lower calf has been swollen since surgery and I had a scan but that didn't show anything other than lots of fluid so I guess I'll just have to put up with this a bit longer. Each time I have s cup of tea or coffee I dash to bathroom. Everyone except me thinks this really funny!! Hopefully when medication stops, so will this!! As for seeing a doctor , in uk we have to wait around 3 weeks for appointment. X

oh dear ... this brings back memories ... no, you are right, it is not funny .. good thing though that you can go back to sleep - I couldn't because I was already preparing myself to get out of bed to go again ... exhausting, isn't it ..

I had 6 weeks of self injecting Fragmin (twice - 2 THR surgeries) and once I stopped, the frequency got less - 

I promise, you will look back at this and find some humor in it ... if nothing else, you can share it with a newbie here on the forum ....
