Well Emily had her injection last Thursday, the team were brilliant with her (she has learning difficulties and finds hospitals very stressful) and they talked us through everything. Basically to cut a long story short they've injected around the iliopsoas tendon to confirm that it is the actual joint and not this that's causing all her pain. Her bone scan was borderline and her MRI was inconclusive basically because she's had so many surgeries on her hip and pelvis it's a mess and unclear and her X-rays weren't good, so they want to rule out everything before putting her through another massive procedure.
She had a bit of relief from the pain for the first couple of days, think this was from the local injected in before the steroids but now the pain is back to normal.
Has anyone else had this procedure and if so how long did the steroids take to work? The consultant did say it varies for each patient but if it's not working by day 10 then it's not going to work, we're now on day 6 😬

I had a left hip injection in may I also was numb for 36hours the radiologist said if I felt no pain when I stood up then it would show the joint is causing the problem.
After 36hours the pain came back and after around a week the pain disappeared I am now on 3 months and there is a bit of an ache coming back. I am hoping this hip will be strong enough as I am waiting for a thr on the right hip and the left hip will be done later.

I have had hip injections if they help then the operation will help if injections do not work there is no point operating also I am on steroids anything between 1 -6 a day they help mood uplift and pain 6 I feel marvellous down to one very lethargic but they do put weight on

I had steroid injection for tennis elbow (I know, different ..) - the injection it self I found extremely painful - and yes, there was some relief for about 48 hours - I still coild feel the pain but kind of dull -
then it came back with a vengeance --- since this is my experience I am very apprehensive of these injections - I had 2 THR surgeries and GP suggested a steriod injection for bursitis ...
I am so sorry for Emily and wish you both a lot of strength

Hello Vicki, I had the same injections which gave me slight relief for three weeks and then the pain returned to the same level as before. On discussion with my surgeon he told me that they are a waste of time and money as they don't work. They were recommended by a physio prior to me seeing the surgeon. I really hope Emily gets the help and treatment that she needs.

I hope she gets her operation soon but it's not all plain sailing my hipness fine for 3 months then it dislocated twice in 4 days so if just taken a brace off after two furtheroperations just abot right know 8 months down the line.
