Fluoxetine + Alcohol

Evening all,

new to this forum and old to drinking...new to anti-depressants though. Just really seeking some advice, less advice, experiences of you all.

I've been taking Fluoxetine for 2 weeks now, had been warned of the nausea and downs by my GP...the few days have felt a tempting of how I should, I know its early days but I feel my dosage should be increased but thats beside my question. Really its, I 'enjoy' at the moment a really good lonely binge on a Friday night of as much as I can drink, I'll listen to music and just be me its the only therapy I'm escaping too at the minute.....has this affected your pills do you know? I know it says not to drink alcohol while taking fluoxetine but all drugs say that so obviously I've went against them, I just don't really want to put myself back with my course of anti-depressants yet I need these drinks so much right now.

Thanks, hope you all are smiling. xx

Hello smile I'm on fluoxetine have been for 6 weeks but they did make me worse before they made me better. I was crying every evening before now I cry only once a week not every night and I find I can face work easier. I love the odd g&t but I don't fare have one although I guess one wouldn't hurt. I heard vodka is best? Maybe a myth xx

Alcohol was a primary reason for me relapsing this time so I've stayed away from it for last 8 weeks. Was binge drinking 3 times a week previous.

Personally my advise would be to avoid it but if it's once a week then I see no harm but perhaps compromise by limiting it and give yourself at cut off and be prepared to feel pretty bad the day after.

cheers!

Hi there smile

I was on fluoxetine for over a year, and never had any problems with drinking whilst on them.

The next day I felt more depressed than usual, but I don't think that was anything to do with the meds!
