Does anyone know anything about drug-induced QT prolongation? I have Tetralogy of Fallot and I understand fluoxetine carries a risk of affecting heart rhythm, I took it in the past and never had a problem but the older I get the more I seem to react to medications. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this, or has ToF and takes antidepressant?
Prozac causes heart paplations and Qt prolongation and irregular heartbeat Does you Dr know you have this?
I know it's a congenital heart defect.
Yes it is, it involves 4 specific heart defects (hence the name tetralogy) but it does not involve congenital QT prolongation. That's why I'm wondering if someone who has ToF but does not have QT prolongation would even have to worry about it ...
Yes and he has assured me many times that there are no long term side effects and no cardiac side effects of Prozac. Maybe he personally has just never heard of this happening? I'm calling my cardiologist this morning to ask.
I was also previously on amitryptilene and my cardiologist (since retired) made a point to get me off that right away but I don't remember him getting me off the Prozac at that time because I continued using it after that
Your Dr. would be the best one to give you advice.
