Hi everyone from last year when the site went offline. I’ve been on the Prozac for over two years now unbelievably,20mg now. Well after the awful start and crippling side effects I’m feeling great, and the only lasting side effect is the vivid dreams! The night sweats seemed to go on forever but that’s recently gone even during the hot weather here in the UK. Anyway, if anyone including the old timers wants to get in touch, or needs some help and support, just send a post. Love to you All x
Hello! New poster, long time lurker.
Last year especially the fluoxetine forums saved me. When it seemed like every second was going to be my last, I would read and re-read the posts. It was so validating realizing that we ALL struggled for months, up and down, as we adjusted. It was my light at the end of the tunnel.
Long story short, I had two surgeries this time last year. The citalopram I had taken for years pooped out after the second one, it’s like I went from being fine to severely under-medicated! Slowly clawed my way out of the dark hole with Prozac, gabapentin, several ER trips for Ativan, and a lot of grit.
Well, I’ve had another surgery (two weeks ago tomorrow) and, yep, feeling like my meds aren’t working… I did ask my dr for a dosage increase from 30mg to 40mg seeing as I struggle with SAD anyway, might as well try. I am just feeling so discouraged.
Have you ever experienced weird side effects with your meds after anesthesia? Any luck with upping your dose? Any words of encouragement to keep going? It feels like depression and anxiety have robbed me of my memory, like I know that it DOES get better I just can’t remember the journey aside from despair.
Hi apologies for the late reply I’ve had trouble logging in! I’ve never had surgery or anaesthetic whilst on fluoxetine but it did take me a good six months to fully get past the awful side effects. I’m glad I stuck with it as it’s changed my life completely now, after 2 years I’m doing really well. Only side effects are night sweats and vivid dreams, and lost libido, but as I’m over 60 years old I’m not too fussed about that as I’m still single since my wife passed away some years ago. Keep on going with it but definitely see your GP as it might be an idea to try a different antidepressant. Best Wishes to you.
