Fluoxetine side effects

I started taking 20mg of fluoxetine for a good 6 weeks for OCD, depression and anxiety. I understand that this is not a high enough dose for OCD so upped it to 30mg for the last 7 weeks. Apart from the usual increased anxiety and OCD which I expected, I am now having awful brain fog where my short term memory is horrendous, along with indigestion and heartburn. I feel like it’s got worse rather than better. Still don’t feel like tablets haven’t even kicked in so have no idea what to do.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you’re struggling at the moment. The best advice I can give you is from what I’ve picked up on here from reading various posts, and that is that it takes a long time for these tablets to kick in, and when they do it’s a very gradual process. Some have said it can take between 3-6 months and that as difficult as it may be, you need to try and be patient and give the tablets time to work.

It’s likely to be more difficult for you as you probably haven’t been on the 20mg long enough in order for them to get in your system properly or take effect, and then the increase to 30mg has probably started the whole process off again.

I’ve been on fluoxetine for a long time at various doses, but had been settled on 20mg for quite some time. I started a new job in February and started to struggle with anxiety and OCD thoughts and I increased to 40mg in June. It has taken a long time for me to start to feel like things are getting better and it’s been very gradual.

It is frustrating and you do start to wonder if you’ll ever get better but I think you just need to persevere and keep reading posts on here as that has helped me a lot on my road to recovery.

Thanks so much, I really needed to read this today and was starting to give up hope! Did you experience digestive issues and brain fog? I think I’m more concerned about the brain fog and my job as it’s making it so much harder and my memory is terrible. I can put up with heartburn and indigestion and have seen a few tips on here that I’m going to try, worse case is I can take a tablet for that. It’s just being able to think clearly!
