How long after a TKR can you fly?
Im no expert bit i would say as soon as you are comfortable walking and sitting.

Three things…
- Ask your doc. I’ve heard 4-6 weeks. This is mostly because of the pain during that time.
- You can’t just sit for hours…knee will get very stiff and painful. Gotta walk around occasionally.
- You cannot sit in pain. Besides your meds, bring an ice bag and have the attendant refill it from time to time.
Meds, ice, movement. That should get you through.
PS: Be prepared to be scanned and patted down by security.
Asking your doctor is the best answer. The main reason for the restriction is because you are at increased risk for blood clots following surgery, and being on a plane with limited ability to get up and walk (and limited leg room to stretch and move your legs) is a big risk factor for clots to form. Usually advised to wait 6 weeks, but that may also be longer depending on how you are doing.
