so after my Rezum yesterday I drain about every hour or two at this point.. my flow starts and its fairly strong. at the end it stops abruptly and i get a sharp pain in my penis - base and tip. every time same thing. then i get a much slower dribble with like a vibration along my shaft i feel like I'm peeing pretty good but not much is coming out... anyone else experience this? anyone know whats causing it? thank you
Is this a Foley catheter question? I don't understand what you are asking. Do you have a Foley catheter inserted and in place?
That's very much in line with my Rezum recovery experience and in line with what is normal. It's caused by irritation of the bladder and urethra, causing the sensations you have described. All should diminish over the next week or so. Pretty concerning time for any guy, for sure. Good luck with your recovery.
yes i do
Badboir:
Not sure I'm understanding you. Do you have a Foley Catheter in place or not. You are talking about a flow and peeing pretty good but your heading is about a FOLEY CATHETER. You also said you just had the REZUM yesterday so I would expect you have a catheter in place. If you don't have a catheter, then sounds like you are doing really well without one but if you do have a catheter, then it is too soon to tell what the outcome will be. Please explain in more detail.

steve19821 You answered Bdbolr's question but it sounds like you did not have a catheter when you had his symptoms. Did you have a catheter after REZUM and if so, for how long?
so these are the spasms i read about?
Yes, I had a Foley for four days, which is when I had those symptoms.
yes, I have one and get the symptoms i described .
Sounds like Steve had it too so i guess its normal
Yes.
If you haven't already done it, you want to tape, or otherwise secure your cath tube to your leg just below where you attach the tube at the top. Leave a gentle bend in the tube to allow for a little movement. I just used paper medical tape to avoid irritation.
Sounds like the classic symptoms of having a Foley in. I had a Foley for several days after my Urolift four years ago and the same feelings would happen to me. Also, I would have painful bladder spasms where it felt like I was peeing for sure but in actuality nothing was coming out. I believe that what you are experiencing is normal post surgery. Hang in there!

Badbolr,
OK, so you DO have a Foley in.
Now, it's very important that you secure the Foley in place so it doesn't move much and there is no tugging sensation that can cause bladder irritation. Make sure the drain tube is securely taped to your leg. The uro nurse should have given you little butterfly tapes that attach the tube to your leg. Then, make sure the tube is lubricated where it enters the penis - I used Neosporin, a triple antibiotic, but you can also use any antibiotic lubricant used for self cath. I had the tube and penis supported in my underwear by pads of toilet tissue so there was little movement.
A Foley is designed to allow continuous irrigation of the bladder, so you are peeing all the time. You don't have to try to pee - it just happens, day and night. Make sure the leg bag is emptied frequently, otherwise it can get heavy. At night you have to empty it a couple of times, or use what is called a night bag, that has much higher capacity. It's possible that the sensations you are experiencing are because you aren't following the above and the drain tube is irritating your bladder and penis. Also, with a Foley in place it might be painful to sit on a toilet seat, so you might have to learn to do things standing up. I have had Foleys in that didn't cause this issue, but my last one did, as it was a 20 fr - rather large. The smaller the size, the less irritating it is to the bladder.
I believe that once you get your Foley properly secured and lubricated, you should feel much better. It normally takes about three days for your tissues to get "used to" the Foley, then everything is much easier.

If you have one in, then you are emptying not peeing. The burning you feel could be the bladder spasms Steve mentioned. Sounds normal to me.
I am twelve (12) days post REZUM and there is still blood in my urine. The bladder spasms have calmed but I AM taking oxybutrin for the spasms. I don't know if I will be able to pee on my own after the cath is taken out this coming Tuesday but if not, I'm going to ask the doctor to teach me how to self-cath so I don't have to have the Foley put back in place. I have seen some youtube videos on it and it doesn't look that difficult.
Your urologist should be giving you answers that you can rely on for which he earned his fee. There should be no guesswork from others as all patients are different.
Self cathing is a great skill to have, even if you don't need it. Odds are you should be OK without self cathing. Good luck!
you've had your cath 12 days?? dont know why they act like mine is coming out tomorrow after 3 days
i def think i have a UTI. things got bad last night out of nowhere.. my bladder is on Fire.
on day 2 i was Perrin free and emptying clear. now it’s back to pain, burning and blood.
I'm going to have them do a urine culture tomorrow to confirm my AB is covering
I so much agree. Usually sending you home to wing it is what happens. When something comes up, it's difficult to reach the doctor for questions. Doctors should be required to wear a catheter for three days in their training so they know how to instruct their patients.
Yes, three days is what they show you in the REZUM videos but that is best case scenario. I had mine removed after three days and the swelling was so bad that I simply could not pee. Went another four days and still couldn't pee so the doctor decided to go another seven days to see if swelling goes down enough for me to pee. They don't tell you this in the REZUM advertisement videos. It's false advertising if you ask me. Now, after the procedure is done, the doctor tells me that two to three weeks on a catheter is normal. Thanks a lot right?
