I had new hip nearly 6 wks ago. Thought I'd check with the hospital to see if I was due a visit to my surgeon. I was told I would be seen after the 3 month period and then by a specialist nurse not my surgeon. Is this the usual? How do I know I am progressing well? Not even sure exercises given to me by hospital are enough or too much. In the dark. Will speak to GP. Wish me luck.
Hi, Not sure when you posted this but you should have had a letter at the same time as your appt ltr for your operation, for a follow up appt 6 weeks after your op. Call the dept and enquire. Good luck.
I to had a hip replacement 6 weeks ago, I saw my consultant after 4 weeks and have been discharged from hospital. I think you need to ring up and query the dates etc. I am limping quite a bit and get pain towards the end of the day. I would like to know if this is normal .
Hi there. I am three weeks and 2 days post op from my right I have a appointment with my doctor in 4 weeks time. I would definitely phone up and ask!.
Hope your well!!

Hi Frank,
It seems every surgeon has his own system. I had a check up at 7 weeks by the surgeon and have another in November - that will 8 months post op. I didnlt get my appointment until a few weeks after I'd been discharged.
When I saw my GP about a related matter, a haematoma near the operation site, I was told as a post op-patient he could refer me back to the surgeon, so if you have any problems your GP can do that.
Do you go to physio? They are usually pretty good at telling you how you are progressing.
Good luck, Cels X
To me, you should be seen by your surgeon to ensure all is well, and 3 mons seems like a long time. Maybe 3 weeks, but 3 mons?? I saw my surgeon 3 weeks after my surgery. Check into that and get seen sooner if possible. Good luck may you be blessed with God's healing and a speedy recovery! Hugs, 🤗 Linda D
That seems a long time before first follow up. I am seeing my Consultant on Friday which will be two weeks post op. I would call.
It does seem a long time for the first visit. I am due to see myConsultant on Friday which will be two weeks post op.
Where I am in the U.S., there are post-op appointments at 2 weeks and 90 days with the surgeon's physician assistant, and then afterwards if needed. I had ten physical therapy sessions at home starting as soon as I got home from the hospital. Then had more out-patient after 6 weeks.
It sounds to me like you deserve more attention than you are getting, so I hope you won't hesitate to ask for appointments and guidance.
Hi frank
Like you I had a check at 7 weeks, this appointment was given when I was in the hospital. Together with an appointment for physio. When I went for the check I only saw a doctor not the surgeon. He looked at the X-ray I had after the op and said it looked fine and asked if the hip was ok. When I told him the hip was but I was having problems with the foot. He just said its plantar fasciitis and to go to my GP, that was it.
I am nearly 7 months post op and after seeking advice from different professions I am now waiting for an appointment for a nerve conduction test.
I wish you luck and hope you get things sorted with your GP quicker than me.

Y is it that the foot problem is always "plantar fasciitis"?? Just wondering because seems like for most part that is what Drs are saying it is without really giving it a serious look at it. 😒
Brenda hope all gets better for you. Hugs, 🤗 Linda D
Hi Linda thanks for your concern. I agree a lot of people I speak to have been told it's plantar fasciitis. I had this about 10 years ago when nobody had heard of it. This is 100% worse that is why I kept seeking other professional advice.
When I have had the nerve conduction test I will let you know the results. This is advice I was given on this forum.
Hugs to you Brenda C
Yes Brenda let us know... I'm curious!! 🤔🤔🤔
Hi Franka,
I had my first appointment after my op at 12 weeks with a specialist nurse, not the surgeon. I was back at work by then! 😊
It seems to be different at each hospital.

Sounds like you should have someone you can call with questions. I am almost 3 weeks RTHR, I have online check-in with surgeon and will see him in 2 weeks. You should be doing physical therapy exercises, not very complicated. Be happy to share what info I have as far as exercises, as I'm sure anyone else here would. Main concern is swelling (which is normal) , redness at incision , your temperature, excessive pain, soreness in calf ( sign of blood clot). Let me know if you want info on exercises. Good luck, Dave
hi franka,
interesting - I had the impression from previos postings that follow up visit is scheduled around 6 weeks post-op depending on Ortho Surgeon's schedule -
xray was taken right before appointment and reviewed by surgeon - usually you will hear which restrictions are lifted, which extended and clearance to drive ...
at 2 weeks post-op my staples were removed by physicians assistant -
the physical therapy issue seems very different -
Good luck and let us know ... how are you doing otherwise?
big warm hug

I did louise. I'm afraid this is Glasgow!
You are the only one to reply with same 12wk period as me. Feel a bit better.
I'm in Glasgow too. Had my op at the Jubilee They were FAB!. That probs explains why we both had the 12 week appointment.
