Follow Ups in the future

Hi all

Had both hips replaced April 2014 and then feb 2015 apart from 6 weeks check which for me js nearly 3 months as ive had infection so consultant couldn't discharge me.

My question is ....does any know what the follow up is once you are discharge? Ie will there be a check up after a few years with consultant

Any ideas?

If my consultant had been happy at 6 week check, I would have no follow up till 1 year later, for which I have the appointment, however due to the pain I had in my unoperated leg and back, he sent me for an MRI scan of my pelvis and unoperated leg, I will see him again in 2 weeks time for the results of that, but its separate from my operated leg as that is fine. Not sure if this helps with what you are asking. I am 15 weeks post op.

I still have to see my doctor for my 6-8 weeks check up - I also have pain in my non-operated leg and will defintely mention this to him ....cannot really help you but do ask him ... good luck with you recovery from the infection ...

I think each hospital is different.  When I had my check up at 7 weeks and was discharged, I was told I may be called back in about 5 years for a check.  There was no 12 months check up or anything just a maybe in 5 years.

Hi

I went back for a 12 month check up and that was it.  Over to my GP

The GP is the one that deals with OA rather than RA...they have rheumatology appintments frequently either with the rheumy nurse or consultant.

The GP sorts our medication out and thats it

Hi there...

Yes it seems to vary hugely depending on hospital.

I had my 6 wk apt at 8 weeks actually, but like Barbara no further apts offered...nor any physio.
