Fools suffer gladly

Hi am a new older member on the block. Found the comments very helpful and perhaps mine may hels somebody to fall into the same trap as me

About 10 years ago diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis. Will not bore you with details suffice to say symptoms, pain lower back and burning sensation down legs restricting walking distance of 30 minutes.Rest all pain goes and no problem sleeping at night.

18 Months ago found I was suffering with other pains in addition to those mentioned above became so unbearable eventually gave in and went to Doctor yesterday.

Explained my position and added other symptoms, stronger lower back

pain pain extending to my buttocks and hips plus the bearning legs. Shoulders, neck and both arms. Not able to sleep at night and barely move and unable to get out of bed except by rolling on to the floor and moving legs and arms until I could get to my feet.

I can hear you all saying the mans a fool!!! I did tell you this at the beginging begining. But what do you think I felt when the Doctor said, You still have Spinal stenosis which you seemed to have learnt to live with but have added Polymyalgia symptons and am pleased to tell you all things being equal I am able to treat with steriods and you could possible be free of pain in three or 4 days .Result:- To be continued

Hi David and welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear of the suffering that has brought you here. Firstly, you wont get a single person on here saying \"the man's a fool\". Rather what you will get is bucketloads of sympathy, reassurance, helpful experienced advice and sometimes a good laugh from people who understand exactly what you are going through.

With regard to your long-standing spinal stenosis, did you have a fall or injury around 18 months ago before experiencing the symptoms of the now diagnosed PMR? I ask because I have a spinal problem called spondylolisthesis which is a slippage forward of the bottom of the spine caused by a fall many years ago. Just prior to commencing with my symptoms of PMR I had a tumble off a train where the step from the train was way above the platform (the platform has since been raised!!!) I have always believed that because of my long-standing spinal problem I sustained an injury to the spine on that day that then developed into PMR, and I just wondered whether you may have had a similar experience due to an already very vulnerable spine.

If the diagnosis of PMR is correct - and your symptoms describe PMR to a T - then you should feel remarkably better in the next couple of days, maybe not 100% but certainly about 80% and that is going to feel like a small miracle to you after 18 months of such pain. Good luck and come back and let us know how you are getting on.

Hi David,

Welcome to the forum. Who ever first stated the phrase, \"misery loves company\", I'm not sure that's exactly correct - but we do feel for you. If the diagnosis of PMR is correct, I'm sure you'll start feeling better within a couple of days.

Hang in there and please keep us updated.

Hello David

Hope the steroids have kicked in and you are having some relief from your pain I firmly remember the rolling out of bed trying not to bend any joints in the morning as knowing it would hurt

Im not a grin and bare it type I dont go to the Dr unnecessarily but if anything interferes with my day to day life I try and get help ASAP I was told by my Dr I should have gone to her sooner with my 2nd bout of PMR as my bloods were higher but strangely my pain was less !!

There is always someone on here who will share the ups and downs with you and their knowledge I dont have any othe health problems but like Mrs O there are others who do

Best wishes and hope you feel better soon

Mrs G
